designing an air intake for an ae111 4age

Postby phatman3801 » Tue Feb 08, 2005 9:06 pm

im in the process of getting a custom air intake made up for my blacktop..this is my problem i can either have a mandrel bent 2.5inch pipe for the intake or a 3inch NON mandrel bent intake. what would be the better setup? ne thought would b great!

what do you mean NON mandral bent?

press bend? obviously bigger is better with intakes, so whichever is least restricive really.

imo the 3" should have a bit more flow than the 2.5... but of course.. i could be wrong ^_^ as always.

and depends on the angle of the bend.. and how far it *presses* into the diamiator of the pipe...

by non mandrel bent i mean jst a standard bend where the diameter changes around the bends.. the place is unable to mandrel bend 3inch they can only mandrel bend up to 2.5inch...my system is going to have approx one 45 deg bend and aprrox one 90 deg bend

If you really want a 3 inch mandrel bend then just go and buy a 90° bend or a U-bend and weld the buggers together.

I'd say go for the 2.5" for better air velocity, but then wtf do I know about 4age's?

Yeah pretty much that.

I'd go for the one that's slightly bigger than the inlet to your pelnum chamber - or the same size at least! From memory i think 3 inch might be about right for those so thats what i would run with!
For intake you want least restriction - think of it like a turbo, you go with a bigger one to get more air in at the same psi right? Well with a na your trying to get more air in at the same vacume level, because that won't increase but what you can do is increase the volume.
More velocity means that you haven't increased the flow at all, more like reduced it but made it go through a smaller hole so it's moving faster!

Increase pressure, decrease flow, increase flow... decrease pressure.

who needs pressure when you have more flow :P.

yes i would say 2,5 any1 herd of port velocity 8)

but my air system on my gtz is made of stanless 3" then steps down to 2.5" , i made this my self, 2.5" stanless piping " bends " isnt easy to get ahold off same goss with the pipe + u will end up paying more for the smaller stuff to

this has nothing to do with port velocity
this is about getting air to the throttle body
stock is 3"

a few buzz words and yas think you can right a book( not directed at anyone... seriously)
