How easy? Redtop into AE86

Postby Stealer Of Souls » Thu Feb 10, 2005 12:09 pm

Okay... got an AE85.5 with a bluetop in it. The engine is a little unhealthy and was thinking if I have to replace it, how hard would it be to put in a redtop.

What will I need, and what will I have to change?

surely it would just be a case of putting the red top in and using the blue top sensors?

might not run quite as well as a red top with all the appropriate electrics, but should go reasonably well.

but im sure the more experienced 4agers will put you straight

what version redtpo? tvis or non tvis?

i think the looms are different, injector plugs etc. everything will bolt in, just the wiring that will need some work.
easy. do it

the redtop will work well, i had done it before with an ae82 from bluetop to redtop non-tvis, I did however use the intake plenum and odds and ends from the bluetop but other than that it actually ran damn well

The motor I'm currently looking at is an 88, so probably a TVIS. Although my bluetop is de-TVISed...

Well... so far sounds like a relatively easy job... If I can get this engine then it'll be a go ahead...

Anyone else got stuff that I need to watch for?
Should I be trying to get the loom as well... It'll be extra on top of the engine, and I'm a bit short on cash right now... God I hate that....

How'd you manage that?
The blue top manifold is a big port and the non-tvis ones are small port so there is no way you can fit iton???

If you are fitting another Tvis engine you will be able to do it piece of cake. Just strip all the manifolds off and use all you original stuff.
There's bugger all difference anyway.

If you want it to go better and can spend a bit of cash, fit a non-tvis redtop.
They are a lot better, but you will need to swap looms and ecu's otherwise a redtop non tvis will be a waste of time.
