SW20 K&N Panel Air Filters

Postby Rasker » Tue Feb 15, 2005 9:01 am

Hi Folks,
Would anyone know where to get one of these from?
I've called Repco this morning and while the guy was very helpful he came back saying they don't list them.

So next on the list was super cheap auto, let's just say the girl that helped me didn't know a thing about cars, and ended up going round in circles even tried to find a K&N oil filter after I stated Air Filter eventually I finally gave up  .

Would anyone know a car part place that Actually does them, and knows what they are talking about?

Cheers :)

PM KiwiMR2, he had a 2nd hand one for sale a while ago, chances are he still might have it.

But failing that, ask for a 33-2030, pretty sure thats the correct part number for one. Any repco will be able to get one in for ya.

Toms and TRD also do panel filters. I've got the Toms one, looks cool for the 2 minutes before you put it in

Problem with Tom's and TRD drop in filters is that they are not reusable

FYI unless it's for a late model SW20 then this is also the same air filter as an ST162 & ST185 so maybe try asking for them, otherwise I got mine at Pioneer auto parts in Church St, Penrose. I think Pioneer are either the NZ distributors or a major re-seller of K&N air filters.

All MR2 turbos use the same filter, a lot of Toyota's do, I gave my K&N panel to a friend with a Corolla diesel 8O. Bear in mind though that any kind of panel filter on an early model AFM-equiped MR2 will not improve performance as the airbox has exceedingly poor flow.

I thought GenIII's had the same air filter as the ST205 which is considerably larger than the AFM model air filter.

Are you sure about that? The bottom half of the MR2 airbox is the same for all models, only the top part changed. AFAIK the ST205 is the same but I've never looked at one that closely.

ST205 filter is around 50% bigger than st185, quite big for a stock filter and from what I remember is the same as ST202 and I would suspect also 94+ SW20

So would it be better to look at a pod filter then? (never thought I'd say that) .

Actually, if I slapped a pod on it, does it have to be shielded from the water coming through the engine grate? (silly question I know, but a novice on the ole air filter)
