Places to get a proper rollcage
Just after places to get a rollcage put into my car. Talking proper homologated, tied to suspension points etc type of cage. Based in Gisborne so will need to tow out of town to get it done, looking for a place that isn't too far away, but realise the extra travel is worth it for good quality work.
If any one has had one done, could you let me know the places name, location, turnaround time, were you happy with the quality and price etc.
Have seen some of the work done by a place in Levin, very impressd for the price. Just looking at other closer options first. Once I have a few recommendations, will make contact and check out the workmanship for myself. Just want to narrow the field down a bit first.

PS - car is a KP60 2dr Starlet, but extensive modifications mean the cage will need to be pretty custom.

the best roll cages by far i recon come from Herbert Fabrication and Engineering, based in albany auckland.
But very very pricey, I have yet to see a better quality roll cage from anywhere else!!!! and i spend alot of time at the race track. He just doen one for a rally peageot but it cost $10,000
There is another guy up in auckland in beachhaven called Bygone Atuos, also right next door is Fraser Cars, they both do roll cages at a way better price but the quality is no where near as good. Most normal race guys take it there so they are still strong.

Nobody springs to mind up that way, as far as being a builder of a lot of cages.
Timo is good (Palmerston). Automotion is good (Levin - they did my cage). Karl Robinson is good (Levin. Herbert Fabrications, and Road Race and Rally in Auckland are good. There are quite a few to choose from (too many for me to recall off the top of my head). Get a few quotes, and see who gives you a positive vibe.

Dave and co at PF Automotive can do all that. Dave is MSNZ license scrutineer and approved cage builder, great guy to deal with an good pricing. You should be able to get hold of the Gisborne Car Club and they should be able to tell you who the closest builder of MSNZ approved cages is. I'd be suprised if no one in Gisborne does them.

I'm in the club, there is no one in Gisborne who does them regularly. No club members have had a cage done locally for a long time. I wouldn't keen to trailer the car if I didn't have to.

Hey, we're not hick, we're exclusive
Less people to share all the wicked gravel roads with. PF Automotive sounds good, will drop in next time I'm up that way. I need a cage that is real tight into the body, so I can squeeze my fat ass into a little Starlet

Yeah, trying to fit 6ft 4in of me into an rx7 with their low roof line poses the same kinda challenges

Herbert Fabrication are also the most over prided Fabrication shop in Auckland. They take four times as long to do a job that could have been done in less time, and they charge like a wounded Bull. Anyone would get that quality if they spent a month doing it. I recommend looking elsewhere...
