not enough oil... vvt ?

i heard that if the engine doesnt have enough oil inside the engine... the vvt doesnt work ... can someone tell me if this is true or not... cheers mates !

VVt works off oil pressure, so if there's not enough for the vvt, there's not enough for the bearings.

what do you mean ... so IF i had a big f k ing oil filter which is not suitable for the car ... vvt wouldnt run .... is that what you mean?

Nooooo.... he is saying that if you dont have enough oil for your VVT to be working then you wouldn't have enough oil for your main engine bearing and the whole damn thing would sieze. If you've got oil on the stick then things should be fine.

No, what hes saying is that if you're so low on oil pressure that your vvt doesnt work, then the vvt is not your only problem.

And provded your oil is still on the 'F' mark or near and ypur oil pump etc is in good condition then the size of your oil filter wont matter at all.

ooo icic ... so ... how much is good ... or the right level to run vvt ??? and does it matter if the oil is too fin and not thick enough ...

Id say the right level would be F or close to F on your dipstick, prob not a good idea to find out how low it takes to stop it workin

On 1 unfortunate occasion after a long ski trip i was driving home & stopped off on the way for petrol & thought i may aswell check the oil too, past L on stick, opps, though car was going fine, but made me fill it up qick smart.
I wouldnt recomend it to anyone, but vvt can run fine on low oil levels.
But this was almost 8000ks after the last oil change so it was due for new oil & filter anyway.
