Clean repost - Trumpets for 20V Blacktop

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS THREAD UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING WHICH RELATES TO THE QUESTION.

THANKS MR REVHEAD I HAVE YOUR COMMENTS ON BOARD. :)

There seems to be much discussion on replacing the intake trumpets on 20v blacktops. I have done plently of searches! However none really answers my questions.

I am looking at totally removing the plenum and taking of my rubber intake tubes and replacing them with machined 70mm ones, then fitting unifilter socks over them.

I understand that they are probably going to be sucking a bit of hot air so to negate this I wil set up some ducting from the font of the car.

The guy selling (whilst he may be biased) has said a gain of around 5% is attainable and many have been fitted to rally, race and street blacktop engines with good results.

Could anyone please clarify if this is worth doing. Espcially interested in hearing from others who have done this.

Send no money now, we'll bill you. Guarinteed to give you 5% increase in butt dyno HP. But wait thats not all, we'll guarintee that you'll loose mid range and overall your 1/4 mile times will be up.

Special terms and conditions. We actually have never heard of Helmholtz, so we can't calculate our trumpet length, so if it works, we tinnied it! In addition we don't know what flow is so we haven't bothered to taper our trumpets at all. And if we knew what helmholtz is, we'd have to supply our trumpets with a grinding disk and instructions on where to cut the firewall.
The answer is Helmholtz!

Well in fact it seems they do know about trumpet length, tapering and curling of the edges of each trumpet. So whilst you may know the theories and details on trumpet lengths etc please spare showing the world how clever you are until you make a post. In fact it woldnt have been such a bad post if you had approched the subject a little more maturely.

I reposted this topic to try and get some honest opinions of people who have similar trumpets in their car. And YES I did many searches, and YES they all had a large amount of clever dick comments in them! and YES I agree trumpets may lose your mid end power, but I want to hear from people that have installed trumpet and what their experiences have been.

Redmist, whilst I agree that your post has some merits and information in it is accurate, what I really want is opinions from people who have performed this mod. I might be wrong, but im guesing you havent?

Its ashame when a message board turns into a place that does nothing more than slag off people who are asking genuine questions.

i've been running the factory intake trumpets on my car for over a year now and the only thing is i've nearly tried everything to get cold air into the trumpets and the only ways are either tilt the end of your bonnet up with spacers or to put a bonnet scoop facing the windshield as air circulates, good length would be 80mm bellmouthed.

Huh? Where the hell did that come from?
Sorry, I don't know what came over me.

[EDIT]

To avoid any confusion, I'm saying that RedMist has mentioned this SO many times in the past that its been burnt into my brain! Why, he's said it so many times that its in his sig now! I think he knows what he's talking about!

Sorry for any misunderstanding buddy. Can I put the scalpal down now? ;)

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

socks

Postby fxgt race » Mon Feb 21, 2005 8:52 pm

i would suggest a pipercross filter which is one filter that covers all the trumpets, sock filters can tend to disturb the air flow and be a little restricting
