help with brake bias

Postby mister two » Wed Feb 23, 2005 5:50 pm

i know that it is not a toyota so i may not be able to get any help on this but thought that i would try anyway.

my car just failed a wof on the front disk brakes. the right one is heaps stronger than the left (140 vs 240? dunno what those figures mean if they help) and therefore it noticeably pulls to the right under braking.

does anyone know what i should be looking at to remedy this without paying for a god damn mechanic (already owe enough from its last visit to the mechanic)? it sounds like it is sticking as well, i can hear it when i roll forward after releasing the brakes.

just any suggestions as to what might be wrong or need looking at.

i unfortunately have nowhere flat to have a look at it or a shed to chuck it in to jack it up (the pleasures of inner city living) or i would just investigate myself so will probably have to go to wanganui to do any work at my folks house :(

any help much appreciated

cheers, hayden

If you can use someone's garage, just to a complete rebuild of both calipers. It's maintenance that should be done from time to time anyway, and the rebuild kits aren't too expensive. It's also reasonably easy to do yourself.

Do you know when the last time the brakes were bled?
If you get really stuck then you can come over to my place if you want, I have a big garage and all the tools.

If its sticking you might just want to grease the caliper slides and see if that makes any difference. Those number you posted up, you're only allowed a maximum of 20% difference one side to the other.

Actually Two Litre i live in wellington now and i must have forgotten to change my location...

hell if i was still at my flat in auckland it would be sweet, i had a garage under my house that could fit 8 cars, so i would have probably had it sorted by now.
