i have a 17 inch speedline mags on my st205, it has 235/40/17 tyres

if i get the factory standard gt4 alloys, which i believe is 16 inch....i have a few questions

first im interested in grip, handling and performance not looks, so the big wheels jsut doesnt ring my dingaling:P

first...
what is the biggest width tyre can i put on the factory gt4 mags for an st205....cos i think it comes as 215...can i put 225s or 235??

secondly...
which set of wheels will enable to give me better handling??

Firstly I assume you already have 17x8's ? Why do you want to put the stock wheels on?
The stock wheels are 16x7.5" and yes the stock tyres are 215's and I guess you could squeeze 235's on them but the max I'd go to would be a 225

i read a modifying guide on the st205 and fensport(im sure you all know who they are) reccomended staying with 215s for best performance on the street and track handling wise but if your going for best 1/4 mile times wider would be better?

I'm running 225 rubber on my OEM ST205 rims. Haven't driven the car with different rims on so can't compare, but..... I was under the impression that the wheels were specially made for Toyota by someone like Enkei and they are pretty lightweight. I have no issues with grip and on the Targa Tour last year the car was absolutely great in both the wet and dry. Even the GT3 RS had difficulty keeping up at times

ok so no one has actually told me anything :P

ok, cos i did hear that too that the standard ones are good, but what advantages would the standard rims have, i would be able to put 225 50s on the standard wheels...and 235 40s on the 17 inch wheels,

but im just wondering, what would be better on handling in terms of street and track....
