couple of wof questions

Postby deaf_rattle » Sun Feb 27, 2005 4:16 pm

Im going to go talk to the cert guy next week, but in the meana time you may be able to answer my questions.

Does the fan need a shroud for a wof? (my mate passed cert without)

does battery relocation to boot require a cert or will it pass wof as long as battery is secure?

cheers

Pretty sure as long as the battery is in a box, it should be fine

Don't see why it should fail for not having a shroud.

As said above, you dont need a shroud and the battery is fine as long as its secure.

Battery just needs to be secure BUT i failed on mine cos it needs to be vented with a pipe to outside the boot. Unless its a gel battery.

The battery thing depends on the WOF guy. I always passed with my batt in the boot in my sigma. It was in a box, but not vented outside. Quite a stupid rule really, considering how little gas they actually generate.

Yeah, both ok for a WOF.

The Battery does not need to be vented to the outside of the car either, this is a motorsort rule not a WOF rule.

Dr-X next time you are near a battery that has been charging for a while light a match near it and see what happens. When a vehicle is running the battery is charging and producing flamable gas. If you had ever seen a lead acid battery in a car explode you would start to take great care when fitting and removing batteries. Although it is not a WOF regulation that it is vented to the outside you are wrong to say that. (But as it is from you it does not suprise me).

As NZ_AE86 has pointed out, Motorsport NZ has a few different requirements to the WOF manual. However, if you ever plan to race your car, comply with those and you will easily pass a WOF as well. No point doing the same job twice.

Callum

Edit-

Here is the motorsport requirements -

(3) Batteries:
(a) All batteries shall be securely mounted and have the live terminal adequately covered,
(b) Batteries located in the cockpit / cabin shall;
(i) Be mounted on a flat metal base, and
(ii) Have two insulated metal clamps affixed by a minimum of 8 mm (ISO 8.8 ) bolts and nuts in combination with under
floor counter plates, and
(iii) For ‘wet cell’ batteries an independently attached leak-proof box vented to the vehicle exterior is required.

(note sealed lead acid batteries are still wet cell, only the proper gel cells can get away without a box but cost big dollars)
