Maybe in certain circumstances (part throttle, idle etc.) extra back pressure might reduce cylinder scavenging - this could be to reduce exhaust emissions?

Or maybe closing off one of the muffler pipes means that you can squirt sooty condensation further to mess up other cars when the engine is cold :)

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

That's one way of doing EGR

I suppose it could possibly work on high overlap engines, but the stock location doesn't seem to be an effective place to put the restrictor for this purpose. Would be much better in the main pipe far closer to the exhaust port.

Of course, the only logical solution 8)

In all honesty we're just guessing unless some has some hard data on when the ECU activates this valve, from what Farmer_dave says it's at idle. If that's the case the noise control is probably the reason.

Why do you need remote boot release anyway?

Actually.. I don't. Bummer. I'll find something to use it for!

Lol - vision of boot opening as soon as engine slows to idle speed at traffic lights.

Im with Fivebob on this one, Its a demister plug, By the look of the window there is a seperate section of demister right at the top of the window and it runs that part, well thats my opinon, why it varies from caldina to caldina is a mystery to me. At first I thought it had something to do with having a spoiler there but they all have them so go figure.

Well I don't think it is a demister, as my whole back window demists fine, and the plug is not connected.
An aerial layout diagram shows the plug - so I reckon it's a GPS aerial for those GT-T's that came with the nav screen (as well as a trip computer).

The picture will be due to the NTSC tuner, New Zealand TV is broadcast in PAL B format.

When are we gonna meet up for the caldina photo shoot that has been spoken of?

It will be the ideal chance to check out the differences between the wagons

Bringing up this old topic again.

I have a 98 Auto/Tip Caldina GT-T, came with flip up compartment where the NAV option would have been.
My boot plug is Plugged in, my Demister works 100%, and underneith the compartment where the NAV would go, there is a the 'Aerial' plug for it, it is cable tied together with the stereo one, but has a different plug on it.

In regard to the exhaust valve people talked about, where is this valve exactly? The cable etc the pulley....?

My exhaust sounds like poos, really fluttery at idle. Nice and quiet inside though.

Cheers
