Just wondering if the indentations on the black top intake plenum/chamber are there for any specific purpose??

the big metal box...

limitations? stick boost in and itll blow to peices....

its the shape it is so the trumpets on each of the throttle bodys angle down, giving a long intake trapt for each cylinder (as long as possible without going to the extent of the 2zz). Giving more low down torque.

the factory 4-2-1 headers do this too, toyota didnt like the fact that they had no low down, so tryed to give them some. Honda didnt care, thus why a civic has NO low down :P.

My guess is your talking about the ridges? I suspect they are there to stop the airbox from flexing.
The answer is Helmholtz!

My plan is as follows, - to make a carbon fibre plenum.

Knowing that the volume of the plenum is realted to the size of the engine I dont want to make the new carbon plenum any bigger or smaller than the existing.

I have taken a mould of my plenum and am wanting to remove the indentations so that its easier to place the carbon fibre on.

PS: Do you think its work making a CF plenum?
I notice the existing plenum soaks up the heat and consequencly warms the air in the plenum chamber. So no matter how cold the air from the inlet its still getting warmed - knowing that CF doesnt absorb heat does this make sense??
PLUS....as a bonus
As the CF will be thinner you will be able to hear the induction noise a lot better??? If you have ever revved a blacktop without the plenum on its a beautiful sound.
