rotary (shame!) into ke70-steering

Postby Mr Revhead » Tue Mar 01, 2005 6:59 pm

this is on behalf of my cousin....

hes fitting a rotary (12a i think) into his ke70 sedan

hes asked me if i know anyone who knows what to do about the steering, it appears a steering box conversion is needed to clear the engine.
so does anyone know what you get the box and draglinks etc off?

iv told him to try and use the rack but apparantly thats not doable, and many ke70s with rotors run steering boxes...
any ideas?

They can be converted but its a big mission. From my own looking around the steering box is quite common in KE70 wagons, are very rare in KE70 sedans and all the TE7*'s run a steering box.
Biggest thing is reinforcing the chassis rails with crush tubes. The mounting points are there but if you just drill them out the chassis rail will squash when you turn the wheel. Column and firewall are also different. Having said that, if a rotor can clear a rack in a Starlet why not in a Corolla? Is it being mounted forward to avoid modding the tunnel?

big advantage of these is the 4link and rack.
take away rack and you're half crippling a great car

the rack clears, cleared on my kp also have seen it clear on other dx's around here.... dont see why there is a problem its very close but clears.

the only ones i've seen with box are the wagons. which come stock with a box.

I say bring up to pram , conversion will be done in an afternoon.  "capital of RXDX'S"

ok, he seems to think the only way it will clear is if he mounts it way forward....

will pass on, thanks
