go down to BNT, ask for Redline gearbox oil

cost you $27 i think a litre

youll need 3 litres (2.5L litre box), a size 24 SINGLE hex Socket, and a half inch strong arm bar (if you have the room to leverage it) other wise use a half inch socked (provided the socket IS half an inch lol)

first undo the Filler hole bolt, so its loose and easy to turn via hand (also allowing air in), second, undo the bottom drain one, making sure you have a catch bucket / can thing below to catch all shit.

Undo the bottom bolt, let it all run out, as soon as you have undone the bottom, undo the top to allow it all to flow out.

let it drain.

if you really want, run bit of clean fluid through via the fill hole to pickup any shit while it runs out again, this isnt really a big deal though.

righteo, now do up the lower *drain* plug. nice and tight, but dont round the bolt. Is there a torque measurement on these people?

grab your squirter thing, (i forget what they are called....) and Oil Greese Gun i guess, but its not a gun! lol, anyway, grab a slob of oil in the gun, and chuck it into your gearbox, continue until oil flows back out the filler hole, then chuck the bolt back on. again, nice and tight, but not TOO tight :).

sort of oil sump plug tight i guess is a way to describe it.

do up everything you took off to get to it (my ae111 had a plastic cover thing, that i took off to get to the filler plug).

Jump in the car, crank her up, give it a drive. I doubt youd feel it instantly, my 111 just felt the same until a few days later, its much better now, but as soon as i done it, i thought i had wasted my money for sure :).

Peace of mind though, Peace of mind.

If your car is standard enginewise then there sin't a whole lot of point replacing the gearbox oil with expensive stuff. Basic EPX 80W90 gearbox oil should do the trick nicely. Use redline if you've got money that you dont really like.

As said above, there should be a couple of 24mm (15/16th of an inch) bolt/plugs on your gearbox, one on the bottom as a drain and one halfway up the front as somewhere to fill. Take them both out until all the oil is out, put the drain plug back in and fill it through the other hole.

Bit of a bitch to fill sometimes, but you'll see that when you get there. You'll probably need 2 litres or so but someone else can confirm that.

Drain plug should be on the bottom of the gearbox somewhere, just grab your 24mm socket and go hunting for one it'll fit on :)

Gearoil: go for *standard* redline oil, not light, not heavy, it works well.
Light you will need to replace more oftern, but will make the gearbox a bit more *loveable*. Heavy is sort of i guess truck work sort of thing... dont change for 100,000s of km's but will do its job right up until the last km.

I chose the middle, just standard, change every 40,000km's (or whatever it is). You could always follow what hrt said and choose a cheaper option, remember, thats $100 on oil alone. If you dont have a squirter, youll need one of those, $30 at repco, plus if you dont have the tools, $6 for the socket, and about $10-$15 for the ratchet.

thats $150 roughly for a gearbox oil change!

basically to see where to do it, crawl under the front of you car, looking in from the right wheel (from the front), youll see a big nut, thats the drain.

now get back out, pop the hood, look down at the tranny... on the front of it (i guess front?) pointing at the radiator, is the filler plug. its about halfway down.... (youll see).

I would go take pix, but my camera isnt here :(

or you could use a length of garden hose and a funnel that fits to fill the g/box.

$2 for funnel
$0 for hose. Who's going to miss a ft or 2.

I find the valvolene gear oil works very well and it's nice and cheap. Put some in a couple of cars and they shift real smooth.

Cant go wrong with a 50:50 mix of used engine oil and sawdust!!!
Very economical too, change your engine oil, soak up the spills with sawdust, scoop it up and feed it into your 'box!

But seriously, I reccommend using the syringe type thing as trying to gravity feed gear oil through a funnel aint a quick process!!!(think of drinking golden syrup thru a straw without sucking!)

Insted of buying the expensive injection setup, you can easily just get a funnel and some clear plastic tube from the local hardware store for about $3 all up.

Use some 100mph tape to make sure theres a good seal between the tube and the funnel.

Did it the other day on a VR-4, worked mint.

All these fancy oils arn't necicary in my opinion, I just use average garden variety gearbox oil, works mint!
