4age bluetop ignitor wiring

got a problem wiring my ignitor up... the green plug off the coil/ignitor pack (in the top left) plugs into the yellow plug i have arrowed. thats all sweet but where is the smaller green two pin plug (in the box) supposed to go?
from looking at wiring diagrams it seems that it goes to the ignitor aswell but i only got one plug coming from the ignitor.
so...do i have the wrong ignitor? (its off a 1985 ae82 fxgt - i don't know the exact model of my engine or what the loom is off) im thinking that could be part of the problem as the plug colours don't match - then again ive never seen a coil with a yellow plug.

or is there another way around it? can i just cut the plug off and rewire it to the coil or something?

any help would be appreciated.
cheers

That yellow one isnt the igniter socket. Its unused on mine and has a cover on it. There should be a green one to match the green igniter plug somewhere else.

that two-pin green plug is the only green plug on the loom, and the yellow one fits the ignitor all OK.
is it possible that i have the wrong loom?

I guess its possible you have the wrong loom but everything else looks the same so not likely. What colour are the wires going to that yellow plug? My igniter also lugs into that yellow one but its not the right plug.

Are there any dodgy looking plugs/wires anywhere on the loom where the proper plug may have been cut off? Or are the wires from the yellow plug joined anywhere?

no, doesn't look like the loom has been cut anywhere or anything like that. the four wires going into the yellow plug are: white, white, yellow and red.

there are just two wires going into the green two-pin plug.

Hmm, thats wierd.
Just on the off chance is there a plug that looks like it will fit this?

Thats just an igniter from a tvis redtop, just incase you had the wrong loom. Rules that out.

This is the plug you have:

And this is the plug you need:

Two black wires, a black with orange trace, and a black with yellow trace.

Have a hunt around for any plugs with those coloured wires and see what you come up with.

I have no idea, I trimmed my loom and three of the 4 wires on it went to other unused plugs so im guessing possibly air con or maybe ECTS or something else I dont have.

stuffed if i know then. ill have a look at the loom tommorow to see if i can find any wires with those colours on.

where abouts on the loom is that green plug in your pic located? just past the dizzy? and whats that blue plug for? does that go to the ignitor?

The blue 2 pin plug goes to some sort of resister which is grounded on the coil mount. The green plug comes out of the loom at the same place as the dizzy (from across the cambelt cover).

that sounds like a similar position of where the yellow plug on mine comes out of the loom. while i was looking at a bluetop at a wreckers a while back i noticed there was a bunch of yellow plugs similar what ive got, except they were by the firewall where the ECU is - not after the distributor like on mine.

whats the resistor for? i dont have any blue plug etc like that. i can't get any spark by plugging the yellow plug off my loom into the green plug on the coil. is it possible that the green two pin plug should be earthed somewhere?

I think its just coz you have a RWD loom (i assume), the yellow plug on mine sits near the firewall to, with the diagnostic connecter etc.

The yellow plug on yours is also with the diag connecter etc so i guess its just because the loom is set out differently.

Ill have a go at tracing my ignitor wires back and see where else they go, might be able to find yours that way.

yea im pretty sure the loom is a RWD, althought im not 100% sure. ill be taking it to an auto-electrician some time next week if i can't get anymore answers myself.

that yellow plug is not for the ignitor - it is for the air/con or something like you said.
i found the right plug for the ignitor/coil on another loom and have traced the four wires all the way back - two go to the ECU, one to a yellow plug with a fuse on it (duno what its for), and the other one goes to the yellow plug in the bottom of this pic.

Image

i don't know exactly what this yellow plug is for - ive been told it could go to a fuse box or relay box or something. is this right? what is the wire that runs from the ignitor to this plug likely to be - a power wire? if so can i wire it to another power source (seeing as i dont have a socket to connect that plug up to).

will it be sweet if i cut the plug/wires off the other loom and connect them up to the same places on my loom?[/b]

Yeap that plug goes to the fuse box. Do you still have the K series loom in there aswell? If so then you can use that to power the coil, and do away with that plug or else the wire that goes from the igniter to that yellow plug needs to be given 12v when the ignition is on.

yep the k series loom is there. thanks for that - the sh*t i need. it all makes sense now.

is there any other stuff that runs off that plug that i need for the engine? or is that ignitor the only wire i need off it?

\than ks for your help :D

What fuel setup are you using? I have a feeling the stock fuel pump is also on that plug but im not sure.

Leave it there until you get it running just in case. I could could have left it there but cut it off to tidy things up a bit.

It stimes like this I wish i had taken pics as I did it coz Its too hard to remember the details :?

im using an external pump off a VL holden commodore.

made a bit more progress tonight. i have figured out what 3 of the 4 wires are for.

Black wire: runs to the ECU for the ignition timing signal
Black/Yellow wire: runs to the ECU for the ignition confirmation signal
Black wire: runs to that yellow plug for the main power
Black/Orange wire: runs to a yellow 2-pin plug with an adaptor thing on it with a fuse in it (pictured below).

Image

I have traced all these wires off a separate loom, possibly off a red top. I have found the black wire for the timing signal on my ECU plug, but don't know where the other end of it is!

I am not sure about the black/yellow wire for the confirmation signal though - on the ECU pinout that I've got it says that wire runs to the 5th pin, with the 14th pin (the one directly under the 5th) being blank.
on my loom there is a black/yellow wire running to the 14th pin, and the 5th pin is blank. it could just be that the pinout ive got is slightly different, but i presume if i take the lid off my ECU I can find out whether it should be the 5th or 14th pin right?

Now for the 4th wire...the black/orange (on the redtop loom) goes to a yellow two-pin plug with that fuse adaptor plugged into the end of it. whats this for? and do i need it? This is the only wire i can't find on my own loom. It also has a white wire running off the plug (not sure where it goes to).

hope all of this stuff makes sense...seeing as i can find 3 of the 4 wires on my loom, i might have to strip my loom back and find out where they end up - then strip the wires off the redtop loom onto the corresponding wires on my loom. yes? no?
im not an autoelectrician, and ive had a few people look at it and give up on it so thats why im trying to sort it all out myself!
thanks for reading all this, hope it makes sense! and thanks for your help.
