how close can my exhaust b to the floor?

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Mon Mar 21, 2005 11:16 pm

going to be finalising my exhaust tommorow night, just wondering whats the closest i can have the exhaust to the underbody/floorpan without having to put heatshields and that sorta sh*t in?

its a 16v 4age with a 2" exhaust if it matters...im not sure how much heat it would create, but i want it as close as possible to the floor as the car is going to be quite low...so how close is too close?

Thats pics of mine, you might notice the underseal has been melted above the collector when they were welding it. Its about as close as I would go.

about 1 inch, also runs more clearance where it runs up the trans tunnel. Much closer and you start to burn the back of your carpet or melt underseal.

You could heat wrap the exhaust if you think it's too close to the floor pan...

On my AE101 GTZ I run the exhaust about 10mm away from the floor.
Ive got about 9 or 10 mounts supporting the exhaust and a very long flexi-joint so my exhaust doesnt move with my motor.
I run headers into mandrel bent 2 1/2", splitting into twin 2 1/4" at the rear suspension. I used to have ground clearence problems with my exhaust....not anymore! My car is only just legal, less than 110mm under chassis.
If it doesn't fit, force it.
If it breaks it needed replacing anyway!
