Some surf questions.

Postby Ae92typeX » Mon Mar 21, 2005 8:09 pm

This week ive decided to borrow a surf to drive around and do some work on, having not had much to do with them before Ive got afew Q's

How does one get the timing belt warning light to go off when the belt is changed?- I guess its just a case of resetting something in the diags box, anyone know what exactly?

Also, the gauge area has a green and a orange light for the turbo- what does each mean?

If it makes a diff its a 1990 2.4 diesel.

on some toyotas theres a bung in the clear cover of the speedo. pull that out and use a pen to push the button behind it.

on others the dash comes out.

My old man has one.... it is auto, and a POS in my opinion.

Untold problems, not that great off road, as it isn't a true 4x4.

Get 2 wheels to loose traction and your stuffed basically.

oops forgot about that
green is on boost, the other is a warning light.

if you have one that doesn thave the bung in the dash for t/belt
you pull the dash cluster out and on the back is a screw
marked either t/belt or sw. take the screw out and screw it back into the other hole beside it.

because deisels dont run any vac....

they are always at full vac 0 boost.

your foot controls the fuel, not the air :). Hook up a boost guage and watch.

it has nothing to do with vacuum.... red one is overboost warning

if it has no vacuum how does it draw in fuel/air?

pump is what supplies fuel pressure to the injectors

still needs vaccum in the cylinders to draw in the air it needs to run

i mean as in restriction.

theres no restriction on it... no tb, no *steady vac*. of course there is, but since theres no restriction, its going to be at 0 vac anyway.

7psi outside the engine, 7psi inside the engine... add boost.

not engine check light, has a seperate one of them.

So green is boost and red is overboost.
Im assuming these models overboost often then?- to warrant putting in a warning light to tell you it is?

thats like saying they have 4wd casue they go offroad often....

im unaware of any overboost problems, dont know why they did it.

some diesels have throttle bodies.

if its sucking cosmo, how can it be 0 vac? if it was 0 vac it would run. ALL combustion engines need vacuum to run
