Pish Pish fuel cap!

Postby CozmoNz » Wed Mar 23, 2005 11:59 am

Ok, Mr2's fuel cap is getting tight :(, like, the other day you COULD NOT get it off with your hand. I tryed, the gf tryed (aww so cute), the attendant tryed, even the other attendant tryed (older chap this time).

we all couldnt get it off.

young (stupid) attendant suggestd we get a screwdriver, then WEDGE it off... HELL NO.

instead, the older chap grabed some pliers (big meaty ones), and was able to get it off.

sounds like ALOT of pressure was there, from the long pishhhhhhhh, my questions are,

A) is this normel? all cars should build up pressure in the fuel system, i know (You fail a wof if it dosnt), but is this to much?
B) Is there any fuel cap that can release the pressure, eg, a push button? (ive seen a few rad caps that do this, but no fuel caps, anyone know?)

How much fuel was in the car at the time? With my fx, I find that only to be a problem when you're running super low on fuel...

Something to do with the vaccum created inside the tank that makes it difficult to undo the cap...

Ha ha ha I agree it ain't the whop whop's it's just up the hill from me and
it take's a couple of min's to get to to from my place so it ain't that far away...

Also my car does it all the time when the tank is running low (Under 1/4 etc)...

Yes, I live in Wakari and it is less than 5 minutes...

Considering I used to live 50km away from the nearest place with a shop of any kind...

Spoze :P. im lazy, and generally most people call whare flat the whop whops.

either way, we keep it above quarter :) plus it dosnt suck all that shit in either. mmmmm tanc shit.

so, is there actually a way to release the pressure? eg a push button release cap or something, or just cary a big pair of pliers when we go to fill up?

That is strange... I've experienced the suction before where it does the "Pissshhh" when you open it, but not to the extent you mention.

This wasn't after a session of welding your right foot to the floor, was it?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I've experienced this once on my car, but it was because the monkey that had put it on before me had 'cross threaded it' I wouldn't have thought it was possible until I had seen it.

next time, try heating it up with a lighter, as thing expand when they get hot. :D hehehe, please don't try it.. else you might have more than just the fuel cap off!
Well, i haven't really came across and tight fuel cap before even i work part time at a gas station. Maybe your fuel cap is not original item? or try go to wreaker or something and swap/get another one that fit.. might able to solve ur problem.
