ke20 chassis q

Postby Tablets » Fri Mar 25, 2005 1:48 pm

just wondering, approximately how much power/torque can a ke20 chassis handle without bending and without chassis modification?

i know it would vary depending on condition of the chassis in the first place but assuming the one in question is original 90000 miles and garaged all its life...

plays a big part in my friends upcoming repower, i want him to go 1uz but he doesnt think it will fit and is worried about the chassis getting bent all ass about tit

umm yea cheers

not sure what sort of power difference there is between a 1uz and a 4agte, but i've seen turboed 4age 16v in a ke35 and the chassis has been cracked/twisted from the power. (not sure what sort of kw it puts out but it'll keep up with sti's etc)

Yeah I have also seen chassis cracking and twisting from a 20V Turbo conversion!

chassis

i had a 3sgte in my ke20 and i split 3 fuel tanks from the car twisting. they split in the middle of the tank behind the seat, only about an inch long,in the end i just started welding them up. a 1uzfe will fit as i measured one up, but a cage might be a good idea. also i found out that when the ke20 series cars were being assembled in thames, toyota used a second hand spot welder. ive had the tow hook pull right out of the chassis. also when the ke30 series were getting build toyota had a new welder but toyota japan changed the way the treated the steel and didnt tell nz till ke70's etc, so thats why you get rust patches in the middle of a mint panels, as toyota nz were untreating (or something likethat)the panels the same as ke20's for painting.
