which car audio?

Postby Tablets » Sun Mar 27, 2005 9:34 am

tried to keep it mainstream, and brands that incorporate a wide range of products, eg headunits, 6x9s, subs etc

so yeah, what tickles your nut-sacks?

clarion

Well their headunits anyway, I dont think I'd bother with anything else they do. I like alpine too but they cost a little bit more.

Out of those - definately Alpine. If you were going to build a system of all one brand, from what I've picked up you'd be silly not to go with Alpine. Top quality head units, very good (albeit overpriced) amps, and reasonably good components and subs.

And I'm just waiting for someone to vote Sony

But then there are people that are fussy about quality and clarity of sound, and not just with how far their stereo can be heard from ;)

I'd have to say Alpine as well, although its not just their amps that are expensive, its pretty much everything that they make! But you DO get what you pay for!

Of course, if Audiostrada were in there.... Hehehe

I know you probably think i'm an uber car audio dork, but seriously, this poll is like posting one saying 'Which brand that makes all car parts (tyres, turbos, windows, seats, gearboxes, etc) is the best?'

It doesnt work that way. Alpine,Clarion and Pioneer all make great headunits, but then other brands like Digital Designs, JL Audio, Adire, Kicker, Resonant Engineering, etc, dont make headunits but make speakers and subs which wipe the floor with the headunit-brand speakers...

As with anything, your best bet is to buy the best brand for whatever particular job you are doing. So if you buy a pair of speakers, buy from a brand that makes good speakers. It doesnt need to be the same brand as the headunit...

The only people who prefer you sticking to one brand are the relevant company's marketing department... If you want a good system, dont decide to stick to one brand, because you'll pay more for less sound :)

umm yea thats why i chose the popular and common brands. if i were to put all the car audio manufacturers and brands into the options, this poll would be as long as your arm, maybe 2.

this poll is for which is best, as a whole (all round). i think you'd find most people that browse these forums aren't familiar with adire, resonant engineering and whatever else you mentioned.

and you could say that toyotas have the reliability, and nissans have the balls, does that mean these two car manufacturers shouldn't be compared, because their strong points lye in different areas?

btw is that gear in your sig what you're actually running? 8O

I'm simply saying that the brandname means nothing... buy on the merits of the product and not on the name stamped on the front of it.

Just because Brand X makes good headunits doesnt mean that you should buy Brand X speakers, to me that makes as much sense as buying Greddy wheels on the basis that their turbo's are good... its perverse logic...

Nakamichi make everything, but BA and PG are only amp/speaker/sub makers, no headunits :)

Only other brands i can think of other than those listed above that do the lot are Nakamichi, Denon and Eclipse... Oh, and plenty of the Trademe brands...

wow, only second person to vote for sony, but then i'm used to their XES side of the brand, and their older products, before Xplod came out. if could mix and match though, i'd say late 90's sony XES amps and heady, running infinity speakers/subs, mate never got beaten with that combination for 6+years in competition, so thats gotta say something.

That's a little different though, because if you were going to build a single brand system withy new gear today, you wouldn't get to use their XES stuff, you'd be stuck with their crap xplod series. Back when sony made their XES gear, they were actually a VERY competitive brand. Unfortunately, they've now sold out to the masses.

very true, their amps are not as powerful or clear sounding as their old ones were. their speakers have a crackle to the tweeters that cheaper brands usually have. their subs aren't TOO bad, tuned one for a friend the other day, and could not get it to max out, and still sounded quite fine. late 90's they were fine, but like you said, kinda sold out, mass produced now. not as good as they used to be. would be good if they inproved them, but yeah, time will tell.

JVC, Jensen, Blaupunkt and Panasonic aren't really very good brands, and therefore aren't going to make it into the list of best car audio.

In my opinion anyway, JVC is much, MUCH better than the current crop of Sony products...
