3tgteu dropping a cylinder..or 4

Postby YeMs » Mon Mar 28, 2005 1:26 pm

a few weeks ago i was giving my car abit of a cane through a back road between the bottom of the kaimais and camebridge.wen i got to the end of the road and started nana'ing it again it started to miss. like not a hard out dropping of a particular cylinder more like a running out of fuel or low spark on all cylinders. at this point the fuel pump was making a funny noise (the high pressure pump that is) and i naturally assumed that the fuel pump was on its last legs. after replacing the fuel pump with a VL comodore pump the problem was fixed. untill saturday nite. was caning it abit, and got about half a kilometre from home and the same old problem came around. started sort of well the same as explained before, running out of fuel or spark and losing power, but then would go away and drive sweet then start running funny again. i havnt tried anything other than the fuel pump to fix the problem.

the engine is a 3tgteu in a ke30 corolla. running a surge tank setup with a lift pump/low pressure pump into the surge tank and a VL commodore high pressure pump from the surge tank into the fuel lines. both pumps and the surge tank are situated in the boot, the lines run under the car and into the engine bay.

im running all standard ECU and knock sensor computer. the only thing different is im running MSD blaster coils (dont kno why i just kinda bought them and thought they would make it faster.. *shrugs shoulders*)

could any of the mentioned be the problem? im leaning towards just going with a full link setup and getting rid of the silly knock control etc if the problem doesnt go away. just wondering if maybe sum1 has come accross this problem before.

cheers for any help, Yems

Not caused by suction in your fuel tank is it? Had a similar problem with my KE30 years ago, try one of those temporary plastic fuel caps and see if it helps.
