There are a few different types but all take the same steering wheel/bosskit, not sure on the No. of splines but you can put an AE85 column into an AE86.

ae85 steering columns

Postby crispy'86 » Sun Mar 27, 2005 9:39 pm

What NZ_AE86 means is the power steer columns are different in length, (fact) the ae85's should be the same length in manual steer but ae85's aren't tilt adjustable LIKE AE86'S. The other option is an aw11 mr2 columnn which looks visually the same. I'm going to try my ae86 column and aw11 columns against each other and see the differences.

im after non power steering, and non adjustable - but il just pull out the angle grinder and solve that part, iv heard that an ae86 will mate quite nicely with an aw11 non p/s rack and pinion steering rack, which im also after.

I have just picked up an ae85 Trueno that has an adjustable steering column as stock , first one in the 20 odd that I've had, and no it doesn't look like some one has dicked with it , it's non power steer as well.

bugger all just finding one is the trouble. if you find a P/s one for cheap/free the bottom half after the uni seems to be the only difference and looking at a ke70 one it looks like you could swap it on

Have you thought about just using a KE70 column?

ae85/ae86

Postby crispy'86 » Tue Mar 29, 2005 8:36 pm

NZae86; Gee that's a first!! Maybe someone has put an ae86 column into it at some stage, all the ones i've had/seen are non-adjustable column.

zglen; there is a post somewhere else about doing this conversion but u may have to do a search. Yep the ke70 column and ae85 column are similar, just make sure it's a non-power steer vehicle or you will have to change the lower universal over as callum said

I seen an adjustable steering column on an AE85 Levin before. But it didn't say "LEVIN" at the side rubber thing, just "LIME" instate! Is a 2 doors Levin. Also have pocket at the door but no digital clock!
My AE86 have non adjustable steering column. :?
