Controlling ignition with Megasquirt. VAST or ESA?

Postby ChaosAD » Fri Mar 25, 2005 1:58 pm

Ive recently been putting together a kitset ECU known as the Megasquirt to run my 4age. I was going to use the megasquirt as a fuel-only ecu till I found this. http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=5417&highlight=4age&sid=9c877d97ddc29dd3f13ea5acbcee48d2

My question is what sort of ignition system do out JDM map sensored bluetops run? VAST or ESA?

I went to download the PDF, then reliesed that its exactly the same one i found the other night. Where in it does it _DEFINTANTLY_ say it? I probably missed it, but i got a strong impression that its a VAST system, but i couldnt see weather it clearly stated yes or no.

Thanks though,

Last paragraph page 6:
The VAST system is only used on the 2S-E, 22R-E, 22R-TE, 4Y-E, and 4A-GE engines.

I don't know if this applies to the 20V as well as 16V engines.

Yeah, thats why i'm not completlely sure, cause it doesn't say that ESA isn't used on 4age engines aswell... See what I mean?

But yeah, it's most probably VAST, ill have a proper look tonight at my car.

It seems like my system is the ESA system. It has a 4 tooth wheel and a 24 tooth wheel in the dizzy and no wires go from the dizzy to the ignitor.

I posted a few questions on the Megasquirt site http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?p=48609#48609 I have a feeling it may work.

After a VERY long search, yup, my car (20v silvertop) is ESA ignition also.

Going to pick up a HEI module on monday aftanoon hopefully, if not tuesday from repco (shouldn't be too expenisive). Let me know how you go chaos. Will be interesting.

the 20v and dli type ze ignition as well as the smallport redtops all use the same ignition system trigger wise
this a is a 24 tooth multi tooth signal wheels and a 2 point home (sync) signal
it takes the home signal and counts teeth to find spark and fueling points ,this is a true crank angle system

all the bigport 4age engines use the 4 point ignition signak and the 24 tooth multitooth
this enables the ecu to control dwell and advance but basically the dizzy controls the spark timing from each pulse of the 4 tooth the 24 tooth enables a shaper resolution for the fueling as the 24 tooth in the bigport 4ages only contols the fueling :D

hope this has helped
