some 1991 mr2 questions

Hey i'm thinking about buying this 1991 mr2 g-limited super edtion 2000cc 2L looks exactly like this one (http://www.palmy.net.nz/mr2dog/photos/index.html?id=7) for $3,900 as my 1st car,
perfect paint job no scratches dents or rust,stock alloy's,it's done 140k's,good pioneer stereo.amp,speakers,targa top convertible,gearbox changes smooth
but here'r some questions you could hopefully answer for me-

-what makes the g-limited, super edtion different form standard mr2 ?
-Is 140k's good for this year car or should it be due for problems soon ?
-If i do get any problems are they hard or expensive to find parts for ?
-The engine was really quiet good or bad sign ?
I know it's probably hard to say if it's good or not but yeah if there's anything you'd like add about mr2's i'd be happy to hear about it

Not my first choice for 1st car but that's just my opinion.
140K sounds perfect, 10K/year sounds right, there is plenty of them around so easy to find parts for, what are the tyres like? Make sure they are good otherwise you will have to do it yourself as first car + MR2 + bad tyres could result in tragedy if you're not careful.
A quiet engine is always preferable to a noisy one but don't forget we're coming into winter and targa tops are known for leaking so unless you have covered parking then chances are it will leak int your cabin which can be a pain in the ass other than that if you do go ahead with the purchase I'd reccomend you change all the fluids and filters and you should have a reliable car for years to come.

I'd agree in saying it's probably not a car for a first car. They are a double edged sword in corners. It will seem like they are on rails. But there comes a point where they go out and getting it back requires much skill.

They're easy enough to get parts for, as the engine they use is the 3SGE, which can be found in certain Celica's and Caldina's.

Put Vasoline on the rubbers of the targa's and then put the glass back in. Leave it overnight and wipe any excess off in the morning. It was a tip I was given by a client who works at Manukau Toyota and works a treat.

When I bought my 90 just over a year ago, it had 130k on it. Now has 180k on it and still runs the same. I don't think you should have too many problems. But do NOT run it on 91. Mine's an NZ new and I still refuse to run it on 91. I use 98.

MR2+bald tires=very bad mix n asking 4 trouble. N/A MR2's are one of the quickest non turbos i've come across aye. replace the factory air box with a fat K n N pod filter, ditch the spare tyres for the city drives n replace the exhaust system n ditch as much unnecessary weight as possible n u will find it a very quick n zippy car great for corners. never had any targa leak problems before. mine's a G-Limited 1990 model. i've replaced my shocks to KYB's.

Excellent! thanks for your tips and opinions,hehe i'll remember to check the tire tread before driving it home sometime this week, i guess cause the engines at the back the rear end would drift out easier than most cars if you turned sharply or quickly ,would getting it lowered with low springs and some 17' mags give me much more traction when going quicker round corners then the 15' factory alloys it has at the moment ?

nothing wrong with the 5spoke 15s. My mr2 is lowered, very hard lovells springs. handles very good

The tires I drove mine home on were half bald due to bad wheel alignment, was great fun losing it on the entrance to my street, back end went out at 2,500 revs foot went off the accelerator real fast and SNAP... quite cool really having the back end do that.

Good fun cars, oh and a type how to fix those leaky windows, other than vaseline.

Get some silicone rubber sealeys is good and some gladwrap apply silicone to the butts of the rubber attached to the car. P
ut a layer of gladwrap over it. Put the targa top back down gently so it rests just on top of the gladwrap DO NOT lock the targa top down, just let it rest there for 12 hours take off the gladwrap and then lock it in place, works a real treat.

Well that is as long as your mate has the door shut properly as you go through the car wash nothing funnier than watching a mate trying to stop a water fall from soaking him.

i have yet to see anything from Nz with the control like the jappas have .

i fishtailed a few times from excessive acceleration around a corner with rear bald tires. new tires now.
