Where to buy exhaust wrap + nice stainless mufflers ?

Postby AE85.6 » Mon Apr 18, 2005 9:26 pm

I know the place has been mentioned a few times and i did a search but couldnt find anything,

i remember everyone kept saying to go somewhere round auckland to get it cause it was much better quality than what ripco sells and way cheaper too, anyone remember ?

also looking for a nice smallish stainless rear muffler (not angle cut tip) for my AE85.6 seen heaps around but they are all massive ones or angle cut tip ones and incase i want to mount it on the slant i want a straight cut tip

cheers

Could also have a look in Marine stores. My friend got some from a marine store real cheap. It's not quite as good as the proper stuff as it's just a plain fibreglass tape, which tend to leave a lot of glass fibres floating around when you first put it on... But once it's on it seems to do a pretty decent job.

Make sure you get the 1 inch wide stuff as its much easier to get around headers etc. 2 rolls of 50x1 wrapped my manifold, dump pipe and exhaust back as far as the firewall. And then another roll to put another layer on the manifold :P

why so many layers, you know it makes the manifolds crack cos it holds in the heat...my old manifolds cracked cos of that, so no more heat wrap for me.

The heat is also cracking the paint on my bonnet with a single layer of wrap on the manifold. No cracking so far for me

yup went to segies for the wrap was $47 which was pretty mean, and had a look at some places for mufflers, pitstop had 2 nice ones both like $220 and about the right size everywhere else i went only had massive ones, the other nice one i saw was at mag and turbo a small 5zigen one looked pretty mean but they want like $310 for it, i understand i could prob get the same thing cheaper elsewhere as mufflers are not really their core business and all but who else stocks these 5zigen mufflers ???
