I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

From what ive had to do with blacktop motors in factory trim, they run very rich and tend to blow a bit of black smoke.
But the biggest problem is that they dont like our crappy fuel here in NZ and they detonate causing the computer to retard the ignition hence loosing power. Go aftermarket computer and you will get good gains.

Even just some type of aftermarket ignition control has shown to make big improvements on the BT.

This is the nicest stock BT setup I have seen. Made 155 RWHP - 116 KW. Its all about the improvement over the conservative stock ignition management apparently. And that is with crappy California fuel.

gavin, USA fuel is much better than our crap.

i and others have found that when running 96 20vs work better when set to base timming of 8deg, if set to 10 they tend to hit the knock sensor more often

The one in that link was running a MegaSquirt n' Spark setup. You can use Mega Spark alone though (or megajolt or whatever) and its very inexpensive. MS is meant to use the Ford EDIS 4 ignition system with coilpacks from wherever. He used MX-5 coils.

Just need that crank sensor, the cog on the crank pulley, coils <- junkyard parts, and the MS unit.

I'm using MS for my turbo silvertop.

well i run my silvertop on 96 at 8deg, and it can still pink a bit, so id say 8-9 would be a good start

hmm, to get it precicse, i wonder if you could install an LED off the *knock sensor* output... wouldnt take any current, and the led would start going off its rocker if you ever pinged. (also would help if you had a noisy exhaust).

I can barly hear my engine over the exhaust at 6k+ rpm. (with silencer out anyway)

just another idea.... but then again, so is an LED shiftlight.... saves accidentally hitting the revlimitor

mine as you already know puts out 95.5kw @whells on the same dyno.

Mods - exhaust, excessive oil consumption.

Not entirely sure on the vadality of that dyno run, what was you drive ratio setup on you dyno sheet?
Eventually id like to get a safc2 installed and dyno tuned by Speedtech, they seme to know what they are doing a bit better then i could see if the base plot was the same as when they others did it....

as says in sig, on the first run i did tho i got 108kw as my drive ratio was slightly out but the 102 (136.68 hp)was correct, i'm running a link, 4-2-1 extractors and 2.5 inch exhaust, it didn't matter if i took the trumpets out, left them in or ran without the 'trumpet cover' air box and that is a stock blacktop slapped into my 101 untill my new engine is built

hmm it was 5.350. He had to run it in 4th gear as 5th would hit speed cut - ill find the 6spd ratios and see if its close

Mine is only 130hp at the wheel for a standard engine with only exhaust and air filter.
Not much but because of my reduce weight… it’s pretty quick around Puke…
