Diagnostic Modes

Postby Brevin » Wed Apr 20, 2005 2:31 pm

hiya guys,

Im having some problems with my Supra, it doesnt want to rev higher than 4000 revs. Someone said that if the ECU detects something has gone wrong, the ECU sends it into "Limp mode."

Now my question is, how do i set my ECU into Diagnostics mode, in order too tell whats wrong. because i dont partucually want to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a mechanic when if can fix the problem myself

Any help would be appriciated

Thanks in advance,

Brevin.

If by diagnostic mode you mean checking error codes then here's what you need to do:

Look for your diagnostic box under the hood. Get a paper clip bend it straight and bridge terminals E1 and TE1.

Turn your car on and check engine light should now be coming on. If it has continues quick blinking then you should be fine as there are no errors. Otherwise each set of blinks will represent one digit with a longer pause to separate digits. There may be more than one code present, but it is on a continuos loop. For example if you saw blink...blink...........blink...blink...blink...blink... that would be a code 24. After you are done you can clear the codes by pulling the EFI fuse (15A) in the fuse block right next to the diagnostic connector for 30 seconds or more, make sure the engine is off.

Each code will mean something different. Here's a link of a site where you can check what each error code means.

Mods might to like to put this in the tech section so that people have a reference of error codes and what they mean.

This is all kindly brought to you by cygnusx1 :D
