Too right, Yellow should give way. Blue car is coming from his right and turning right so give way. But I voted for blue, cos im mouse happy and clicked the wrong one!

I wouldve thought it was the blue car that had to give way? If it was me I would. Too many stupid rules these days. Look at the damn roundabout indicating, too dam confusing.

I dont see how people find that roundabout law confusing - besides which I thought it was always law. I had to indicate off the roundabout when I did my license test.

yes you are right, it has always been the law, How do people find it so confusing - its basic road rules you should have learned from when you sat your license, i sat my license about 8 years ago and i still remember them - if i ever have any doubts when i get home i refresh my memory with the road code - simple!

These polls go to prove that the main problem on nz roads is driver education - not speeding!!

I would happily watch a police officer give people tickets for failing to indicate/stop at intersections/roundabouts!!

just remember dude, speeding and drunk driving are the main killers on the road, not failing to give way at unmarked intersections and not indicating out of round-abouts

Many people speed at some point - does that mean they will have an accident? Would You feel safer with Greg Murphy at the wheel doing 120km/h or a 16y/o that just got his full and mum and dad bought him an evo?

I dont just mean indicating coming out of it, im fine with that, although it is a pain in the ass. Recently my friend did the defensive driving course and he was told that:

When driving straight through a round a bout you must indicate RIGHT while driving through it then indicate LEFT when exiting. So he did that in his full licence test and the instructor said not to do it.

Over the last six months or so I have seen people doing that alot and it is just plain old stupid.

driving beyond their ability (for some thats out of the drive way...)
speed is only a small part of the problem, not the actual problem.

you can be doing under the posted limit but still be unsafe....

Also, it says 50 people would be saved by wearing seatbelts. I think you should lose your licence if you're caught driving without a safety belt, it's just plain stupid not to. Also, I'd like to see bigger fines for it too and if you're in a crash and you're not wearing a belt you should have to pay all medical expenses. Make the penalties high enough and most people will stop doing it.

good point but bigger fines are usually strung out to deal with people potentially hurting others... ie speeding and driving whilst intoxicated. you arnt going to hurt others by not wearing your own seatbelt.

I think what is said about speeding not being the main issue and people driving to their limits etc is much like smoking.
smoking a cigarette wont kill you and wont cause problems but its what happens when you get lung cancer...

I think decent Defensive Driving courses should be compulsory!!

Most 16 year olds aren't really responsible enough to be behind the wheel of a "killing machine"!!

Good driving skills come with experience and you can't get that from a few simple tests!!

Yes, speed kills, but why do people speed in the first place??
They aren't educated enough to drive to the conditions!! Or they're driving an over-powered car that they aren't experienced enough to be driving!! Or they're just showing off to the hot chick in the seat next to them!!!

The cops are focussing on the wrong thing - revenue gathering!! They need to focus more on people's actual safety!! 10km over the speed limit isn't as dangerous as that young (or even old) nutter driving his brand new EVO at 140kmph down that dangerous section of road!!!

Speed cameras need to be OBVIOUS!! Sign posted for 100m before their locations, in dangerous sections of road to get people to slow down because getting a fine in the mail 2 weeks later is not going to slow that person down!!!

Anyway, the focus here is on driver education and it's fully clear that it's lacking considerably in this country!!!

I think sending this to the police wouldn't help coz they'd just see it as a "boyracer club" full of young houligans, causing them to give "car enthusiasts" more of a hard time than they already do!!! Sad, but true!

Agree with defensive driving.

The left turner should, in theory, be giving way. The right turner, if driving defensively, will be absolutely certain that they wont be involved in an accident before making any assumptions, however.

Given the indicators are on the wrong side of the car, the right turner wont be able to see the indicators that say 'i'm turning left'. So theyre going to have to assume the car would be passing through their path...

If there were multiple cars, as the right turner you'd be giving way to any other vehicles anyway, and the left turner is going to be looking to see whether there are other cars or not in order to determine whether its safe for *them* to proceed (in theory). Otherwise theyre going to be making the left turn because they can be entirely through the manouvre before the right turner is even off the mark.

So its one of these situations where commonsense rules, and defensive driving is very important - but if there were to be an accident, the letter of the law would come in, and the left turner would get pwned.
