Car Storage

Postby BZ Touring » Tue Apr 26, 2005 8:54 am

OK, so the ol' 20 valve is going to be put into hibernation for about a year.

What should I be doing to maximise the likelihood that it'll start again and run properly after that period?

Cheers.

Personally, I'd put fresh oil in, drain the coolant system and refill with antifreeze to help prevent corrosion. Disconnect the battery and put the car up on axle stands to prevent pressure on the tyres on one spot. I'd also leave the windows slightly open if possible to allow air to circulate freely.

unless your garage is damp ... I nearly killed the entire interior of an R31 Skyline by leaving a window open in a damp garage for a long period of time. Whole inside of the car turned mouldy, it was disgusting.

My old SW20 went into storage for bout a year at the old place, i done the oil change and got them to fire it up every 2 weeks and take it for a short drive up and down the road as well, didn't want nothing to cease. Dont forget to change your insurance!!!!!

may be a good idea put new brake fluid in it, and then change again when you get back. if you store it wit moisture int he fluid it can cause probs!
