Drive shaft + brakes ae85

Postby R.U.F » Tue Apr 26, 2005 5:45 pm

Can some1 please educate me. I am replacing my 3a and k40 with a 4age and t50. DO i need a different drive shaft to fit the t50 or can i use a standard one? Can i modify the standard?

Also what is the cheapest and easiest brake upgrade for a ae85?

Thanks for your help guys

hey mate, no you will need a driveshaft from an AE86 or a TE71 an AE85 driveshaft won't do the trick

Brake wise try find some front struts and brakes from older celica/supras etc, these are often 10" vented and the entire strut will bolt in, just use the AE85 top hat and the steering arm from the celica its really easy, i picked up a pair of struts and brakes for $40 can't complain at all

For the rear brakes you are best to try find an AE86 or TE71 disc brake diff, these are also alot stronger than the AE85 diff which is another bonus

Are they the only parts you need? Do you also need the lower control arm? I noticed an old Corona 1983 with the same stud pattern and vented front disks, would they be the same as the celica/supras??

Not necessarily; I'm running 1 piece driveshaft from a 3a trueno which had k50, they are same length and fit straight up to a T50. 20 spline

AE85 and TE71 are the same 20 spliine unless there is a late TE71 'box with 22 spline, AE86 have 22 spline.

ahh i see so it all depends on how old the t50 is

and no you don't need the lower control arm, just the steering arm, and yes that one in the corona should be exactly the same

if you can find a old carina wagon they have a 22 spline t40 and a t series diff . has a nice one piece driveshaft that only needs to be shortened a fraction. For brakes the 10" celica cressida etc brakes are the go but I dont know how youd get on with useing the celica steering arm, as most have a bigger ball joint

ball joint is fine dude, i had no problems at all

the braking is amazing now, although i have to run 14 inch or larger wheels because the front brakes are so big

Does an AE-85/6 shock absorber insert, fit into the strut?
