4AGE Spark Noise.

Postby shazeal » Wed Apr 27, 2005 12:35 pm

Hiyas,

After changing to 96 octane my engine has quieted down a bit and Im hearing another strange sound from the engine bay when I rev the car.

Ive put my ear in and narrowed it down to the area around the Ignitor on the Top right of the Firewall. Basically the sound is like something is Arcing, similar to if you pull out a plug lead and stick it next to the engine and create a spark.
Its only really audible when you rev the car and seems to increase/get louder with Revs, it even seems to do it when the car has been driven a bit and turned off, it will continue ticking for a while (while meaning upto 10 minutes).
I cant smell any ozone or burning smells so Im assuming its inside something. Do the ignitors or gear around that area normally make that noise?

Hoping someone might know what it might be.

Thanks.

Shazeal.

What car is it? I know my fxgt does it, I don't really know what it is, but nothing seems wrong, so I've just left it.

89 Trueno. I wouldnt mind so much if the fuel line wasnt right beneath it, and it wasnt ticking after the ignition was off. Crash and burn springs to mind.

I wouldn't worry about it, mine has been doing it since I got it. Has it only happened since you changed to 96?

Not really sure the engine was quite noisy on 91, its just something I noticed when I was pulling apart the TB and heard the ticking noise while engine was off.

My old 89 Levin did that too. Someone once told me it was to do with the charcoal igniter?!?? No idea what it does.....

Its the carbon canister (fuel emissions) releasing pressure. Don't worry about it.
