Running 3S-GTE without an Intercooler

Postby Corona » Fri Apr 29, 2005 1:48 pm

Hi All,

I am hopefully going to get the GTE in the Corona running in the next day and was wondering.
As I don’t have an Intercooler sorted out for the beast yet, is it safe to run without one at the moment? I was thinking of just running a pipe from the turbo outlet to the manifold inlet until I can find an intercooler that suits, and putting in some octane booster to try to eliminate the detonation that is likely to occur.

But before I went and did this, I thought that I would ask the Gurus here :)

Well, if you can keep boost levels to maybe 7psi and dont fang it, I dont see it causing much harm.
Have a look on trade me for a stock MR2 intercooler, they pop up often and will do the job for like $30 until you can get a proper one.

Is that chicken man's old corona you are talking about?
If so, good to hear it might finally be running soon. :)

The very same. Been working on it all week, and am just wireing up the Engine fues box as I type. (Well not as I type, as I am am having a coffee at the moment, but "should" hopefully have it going by today or tomorrow :D )

The engine is still stock at the moment, so will just have to drive mostly like a nana untill I get this intercooler sorted out then eh?

As Boost says, keep max pressure to around 6 - 7psi and you should be okay.

should be ok, I think you should go for an ST165 intercooler, will be very stealthy :)
I have one if you want to buy it, no pump but I have the IC, some pipes, and a heat exchanger. All yours for $150 :)
