FYI Thermostats from Repco

I purchased a thermostat for my car today - 20V AE101, and Repco have them listed on their computer and in their book incorrectly. If you ever get one remember that as I had to stuff around for 1 1/2 hours trying to get one that fitted (we ended up measuring it).

The Part Number for the correct one was TT299-180 (Tridon Thermostat)

That happens all the time I use repco everyday at work (boss's orders) and the amount of times they get it wrong is huge but I dont blame the staff as they can only be as good as the listings they are given so I tell them to complain to head office as its the only way things can change.
Problem with them is they are austrailian and dont get the wide range of imports we gat so listings are limited but getting better by the year in my opinion.
As for thermostats and other smaller things I try to use genuine but as you know they dont open weekends which is of little help to most of us working on our own cars!!

Let the head office know the details, they can update the system for things like this.

I used to work for their sister company Appco and we had to deal with there incomitency evey day, very frustrating. Also dosent help when the listings are wrong. Their catalogue computer has so many mistakes in it it's not funny

Exactly right. Even Super Cheap seem to supply the incorrect parts.

If you have an import sharing the same part as an aussie local vehicle you'll be sweet. Otherwise you'll be stuffed. Case and point ... listed outer cv joints for starlet ep82 gt turbo : 23/23/56 ...

There are actually a minimum of 3 depending on whether you have LSD, ABS, both or not.

Buyer beware.

Well Super Cheap were no better if it's any consellation. We have had to supply ex an Italian company in the case of new cv joint kits.

Yeah Super Cheap is no better, they have most of their catalogues based on the Australian market. Only a few have jap import and NZ-new info, like the Fram filters book.

They are apparently upgrading their computer system soon, so it will have all information about jap import and NZ-new models.

Yea next time I will go Genuine. Just comparing the one I took out vs the one I put in you could obviously see there was a huge difference in quality and build. The only problem is getting the part when you work long hours Monday to Friday.

I was pretty sweet about it until the Kid at Repco told me the correct one was going to be $58. I let him have it after that - Albany Toyota Quoted me $70 Installed inc GST plus I I had to drive to another store to pick it up. He gave it to me for $34 - Green Card Discount.

Id agree with going genuine, for my Bluetop water pump at Supercheap $74 ish and Genuine $79. The Supercheap one, as with most aftermarket, only gives you the impellor housing, with Gen, you get the COMPLETE pump!!!

Im still stuck there and this new computer system is doin my head in! Your right about the staff tho... half of them could be replaced by a brick on the counter... just as useful. The only issue that I had when dealing with Toyota was the price.. albeit "trade". How much are turbo gaskets meant to be for a 3S-GTE (ST185) anyways?? Seemed stupidly expensive when I got them.

Scratch one monitor due to ACE (New system at Reppas) cos I nutted the $&#$% out! Muhahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa
