AE101 gearboxes?

Postby ants_ae92 » Tue May 10, 2005 9:56 am

What are the gearbox codes for the ae101 levin, fxgt, corolla? Are they all the same?

My ae92 gearbox has knackered 2nd synchro, and an engine swap is on soon, so I thought if an ae101 had the same gearbox, I could use one of those, and save myself some time and hassle by doing both at the same time?

My ae92 has a C52 gearbox.

yep, its the same gearbox number, but the bellhousing is slightly different. Mainly i believe to accomodate the starter motor on the intake side of the engine. Will still bolt up, just may need to get a blanking plate made up for the bit where you dont put your starter motor..

So could I use the ae101 gearbox and mount the starter motor on the other side, instead of making up a blanking plate?

I have some 20v extractors on my ae92 4age, and the extractors sre so close to the starter motor that they vibrate against the starter motor heat shield when I come of the gas. So swapping the starter motor to the other side would be good!

Is it possible?

if you did that you'd have to get a new sandwich plate to blank off the other side (20v gearboxes have 2 spots for starter motor, one on intake and one on exhaust side)

i just modded my 20v extractors to fit around the starter motor ;) (im still using the 16v gearbox) by taking the number one primary closer to the other 3, so it just misses the starter motor

You may find that your 16v starter wont bolt to the other way around, and you'd have to use a 20v starter instead. i found that a 20v starter wouldnt bolt up where the 16v one did. Not 100% sure if that applies the opposite way round
