Is the knocking shocking? (AE111)

OK,
I got a problem with my AE111, when you drive along over uneven stuff or bumpy stuff, you get a sort of clunking/knocking noise from the back. I want to know what it is to fix it! It bugs the crap out of me!

When I recently had a service with toyota, they said itwas the rear shocks, but if I oush down on the back of the car and let the shocks correct the bounce, it works fine... So is what they are saying true, or is it something else?

My car is not superstrut BTW, and I have lowered it (but it did the cluncking befor the lowering too).

If there are any more Q's, just fire away, I wil answer to the best of my ability.

Yip common problem with most ae101 and ae111s.

Replace your rear sway bar bushes and more than likely the noise will be gone

yeah toyota told me to replace my rear swaybar bushes,

but looking at the rear swaybars, theres not just 1 bush on each side theres like 6 in total, i didnt know where to start so i just put up with the knocking for now

Try lubricating the bushes with silicone…
It should only be two bushes holding the rear sway bar and one tie rod (thing) on each side of the end on the sway bar… but that little rod isn’t the problem… just the bushes really…
Otherwise change the pair of sway bar bushes with TRD stuff since if you are gonna replace it... that’s what I did… work fantastic.

yea replace the 2 main bushes that hold the sway bar to the body, nolathane one $20 cheap n easy to do. should stop the noise

replaced the two main bushes on the sway bar today - and presto - all fixed, thanks all, especially for the recomendation to go to SAS in Manukau...

Yeah, real easy too! I didnt actually do it myself, but easily could have! Will take less than half an hour to do...

How to do it:

Go to a parts store and get urself some nolathane "d bushes" for the rear sway bar.

get under the car and unbolt 4 bolts ( two per bracket that holds the bushes and bar in place)

slip off the old ones ( they have a slit in them to pop them over the bar)

grease up the new ones and put them in place of the old ones

bolt back together

PRESTO!

i take it the d bushes will just fit an ae101/111 and isnt car specific?

is sorta car specific, due to the varying sizes of brackets and sway bar diameter... but if you go into a place like SAS they will know exactly which one to get ya...

went into a place today about these the chassis mount pair are about $28

LUMIN8 : In ham... frankton, opersit the fiberglass shop there is a shock place, (summerset street) there are two sizes for ae101 (they say) so measure first, 13mm or 14mm

Yip youll need to know how thick your sway bar is before you get the bushes. On ae101s, non s/s rear swaybar is 14mm, s/s rear swaybar is 16mm
