Exhaust Question

Postby Denerio » Fri May 20, 2005 4:14 pm

Ive looked through the forum and it seems from what ive seen that the reccomended exhaust for a ae101 (levin) has a straight through muffler (is this a big bore?) on the end.

I want to know if i have some 2 1/4 pipe (no cat) and two long resonators and just some nice tips on the end, will this be really loud? i want a quiteish sound when normal but when i really put my foot down a bit of volume.

to have a system that sounds nice and not all boy racer loud, will i need some mufflers on the end :?:

Yip your onto it, 2.25" with two long straight through reeonators is the go. It will still be quite loud but it shouldnt have that rasp to it. Only way to quiet down a system is to add mufflers, not resonators

But yes you will need a muffler (or mufflers if your keeping the twin look) cos without it/them would be hell loud!

so is it the size of the tips that makes it louder than it is now or is it the type of muffler?

at the moment i just have one resonator, no cat, and standard mufflers and tips but it sounds like utter ass. i want to make it sound reasonably nice but not to expensive, how much would i expect to pay for muflers?

Thanks for your help

Type of muffler, not tip

Replacing the rear muffler will make some difference, but youll prob need to add another resonator in there as it will be quite raspy with only one resonator

If your not worried bout looks then you could get a straight thru 2.25" for cheap as

I run a GTZ AE101, headers, mandrel bent 2 1/2 inch with one muffler one resonator. It splits into twin mandrel 2 1/4 inch by the rear axle, and each one has a muffler.
Thats 3 mufflers and a resonator, has a very "healthy" sound to it, quite deep, sounds bloody good!
If it doesn't fit, force it.
If it breaks it needed replacing anyway!
