AE86 Fuel starvation on g's

So i'm out at puke' last weekend, and having a great time until.... a small splutter just after the hairpin. Next lap, a little worse, next lap ... worse still. I still had over a 1/4 tank left, but obviously the g's are splashing the fuel away from the tank pickup.

I'm told its either:
1. Cut open the tank and insert fuel sponge (or alike stuff)
or
2. Consider a fuel surge tank.

What's the experience and advice here ?

Note: This AE85/6 is running a 4AGZE (from AE101), and set-up as a Targa car, but might also consider some endurance races for fun.

your better option is probably a surge tank,

you will have to run a low pressure pump to supply the surge tank, and a high pressure pump between the surge tank and engine, fuel return from engine goes back to the surge tank, then a return from the surge tank to engine.

Where do you normally locate the fuel surge tank ? Whats the typcal litre size ?

Can you mount under the car or in the engine bay, i'm not sure MSNZ regs would allow that otherwise.

the one ive made for the ke30 is 3 litres in size ,
it will be mounted in the boot with the 2 pumps either side,

and as corrected, i meant back to the main tank

also cutting the tank and putting the spunge stuff is good if you have a big off with stopping the tank from catching fire

I'm "told" its an AE86 one (in an AE85 chasis). I will note that the factory guage reads 3/4 even when full.

Surge tanks are good, I can vouch for them. You can get them premade easily enough, just a 1L tank in the boot, but I was under the impression that they can't be installed in the cabin in a road-legal car? Sedans are ok obviously, as they go in the boot, but as a liftback, wouldn't that class them as being in the cabin? I could be talking out of my arse here, so don't take this post seriously.. but I'd be checking the legality first.

Why the hell will the foam help if you rupture the tank? it still wont stop the fuel from coming out.

An AE86 tank has a different pickup system inside the tank so if it is still an AE85 one it will cause surge.

And the surge tank we run in the 2JZGTE corolla holds about 13 litres,

It's all in how its' built, more than the capacity.

ae86 intank pump is better than the commodore one.
You will get surge with ae85 tank
my ae86 will only surge when im right down on the bottom of the gauge

If you are having these troubles with ae86 tank & Pump then i would suggest a surge tank setup
I dont think you can run the surge tank in the engine bay when concerned with manz regs but i have seen many cars with these located in the bay

the foam is ment to help with holding the fuel in the tank and if the tank is to go up in flames it is made of a product that will not burn so stopping the car going up in flames

it is the same stuff that is used in drop tanks have had a couple of people use it and it does work
