4age into ke30

Postby mister two » Thu May 26, 2005 10:37 am

Okay I know there are heaps of questions similar to this, but i want a simple answer from someone who has done it...

My brother wants to put a 4age that came from a 87(i think) fwd rolla into his ke30. Does anyone have a list of everything that is required to do the conversion? I think that he is trying to source a T50 at the moment.

So what else does he need to track down? Rwd manifold? etc.
Does anyone know what it cost them to do the conversion excluding engineering as he can do that himself and excluding the engine cos he has that already...

Cheers
PS anyone got a T50 for sale?

I have done the conversion, im at the very last stage its not as easy as many make out to be. You will need a RWD inlet manifold, RWD extractors, coby make a set however they dont clear the steering box on a KE30 and the steering stops need resetting and they need crushing. the thermostat housing off a 2A FWD is really ideal and easy to mount and works fine with a FWD water pump, can show you a pic of how its done. Mounts can be brought from a member called grotty for about $200 these a great and bolt to the motor and sit in the standard cross member. I made up a custom gearbox crossmember. The FWD engine backing plate doesnt quite cover the whole RWD bellhousing, so you either need a RWD backing plate or make up a thin steel plate to bolt onto the remaining holes to stop dust getting in can show you pics of that too. You need a spigot bearing for the rear of the engine. also you will need an external fuel pump and an 8mm line needs to be run from the tank to engine, the standard KE30 feed can be used as your fuel return. I would also recommend a surge tank set up with an additional fuel pump to fill the tank.

More little things that i havnt bothered mentioning and maybe a few ive forgotton. If ya need any help or pics lemme know and ill be keen to help out.

Now that is the kind of answer that i was looking for! much appreciated!
I think that he could make up the engine mounts but photos would be helpful to show how it all fits.
Did you use a T50?
Have you made any changes to the brakes yet? If so what fits?
Also what needs to be done to the drive shaft/diff to piece it together?
Are you running the standard rear end or something like an AE86 one?
Could you hook me up with that list and as many photos as you have without going to too much trouble?
Sorry bout all the questions

My brakes have just been reconditioned with racing pads, ill upgrade them soon might use skyline rotors and callipers. KE70 struts bolt in, just use KE30 top hats, KE70 brakes are a bit bigger and the pads are nearly double the size of KE30 ones :). You will probaly need the cylinders and shit from a KE70 as well.

Im running a K50 for now, so just my old oversized driveshaft from my 5K. Ive got an AE85 LSD setup which I will be installing soon after the motors all running properly.

Ill take photos for you tomorrow and host them up soon.

Just lemme know if theres anything else ya needa know :D
