ae101 mags onto ae92 rear strut issue

Postby quinny » Fri May 27, 2005 2:56 pm

I was wanting to treat my 101 sedan with some new wheels and throw my old 17's on the mrs ae92 GTi. problem. fronts mint but the mags hit the strut in the rear even with the spacer it already had with the current 15's. I Have spare 101 struts floating around but before i waste my time trying to swap the 92's for 101's can anybody tell me if they fit or what the solution is, cheers

just depends what the offset of the wheels is really, +40 is about as high as you can go on the back of an AE92, changing the struts will not change this.

Is it hitting on the strut itself or the spring seat? If its the seat you can just bash it in to fit with a hammer :)

Your not from Palmy Nth are you with technique like that, it rubbing the spring cup. is the dongy knocker method well proven?

Well it was the guys at the tyre shop who did it to mine to make then fit. Said he had done it to a few to get them in there.

As long as your spring stays in and you're not going to have to bash it in HEAPS then give it a go.

ae92 the highest in offset u can go is +35 , sum times u can just get a +38 on , but not a 40 without a spacer . And the wheel shouldn't be hitting the platform seat otherwise u r on the wrong size tyre as its changing ur rolling diameter 8) And as for putting the ae92 struts in there really aint no gain by doin tht and the strut wood effectively be in the same position .

No offence intended, but you're quite wrong there. A +40 definantly fits on the back of an AE92 without spacers, believe me, between my brother & I we've had about 6 sets of 17's on various AE92's, Levins, Truenos, FX's. At least 3 of these sets of wheels had an offset of +40.

If i didn't know it for a fact, i wouldn't have said it in the first place

dude no offence taken but i do this for a job and have fit many mags up to ae92 's and ae 82 's and u cant use a +40 p without a slight bit of rubbage and i own 2 of these so i should know 8)

well we'll just have to agree to disagree then, all i know is that the AE92 sitting in my bro's garage right now says your wrong, & the one I just sold, and the one i sold before that.
