Turbo carburetted 2tg

Postby Gx71man » Sun May 29, 2005 10:54 pm

My freind is going to turbocharge a 2tg, He wants to keep it carburetted.
What carb should he use? It will be blow through.
I have herd a SU carb can be used as blow through.
Any idears on the carb he should use?
Also what other things should he watchout for? The vacume advance?
Will his standard brake booster handle the boost? (4psi ish)
its going in a ke70 wag.
Any other stuff i forgot about?

Thanx all.

Sean

kazjim- from ausmini wrote:Yep, the HIF-4 TURBO carb is quite different to the "Normal" HIF Carbs....

You use a "Normal" carb on a blow-through turbo setup, you'll know all about it at about 2Psi boost...... *BANG* as it leans out and burns a piston or worse.....

The Turbo carb has a float-bowl pressure inlet on the face of the carb to assit in the fuel being supplied at a greater pressure than boost (Thanks to a restrictor ring at the mouth of the carb to LOWER pressure on that side....)
there are also seals on the throttle shafts, o'rings everywhere and a special seal on the dash-pot top .....

Choke is on the opposite side and it has no "Flap-valve" on the throttle blade itself ....

so yes, you can, but get the correct one if you go su.

I have a blow thru turbo carbie. It came off a Renault Turbo Fuego.
The setup was turbo, intercooler, carbie.
Factory setup ran 6psi. I have photocopied pages out of the factory manual so you will know how to set the carb up.
$50 including pastage.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Carb Turbo

Postby Frosty » Wed Jun 22, 2005 2:58 am

Have u ever seen the turbo kits for the 4.1 Falcons.
they use a pair of SU or CD carbs but they are draw through ie they are before the turbo and use a low boost, around 6 psi.
Very good system with only 2 draw backs.
High fuel consumption and very hard to start cold, they suffer from fuel drop out, ie the petrol dont stay atomised at cranking speeds.
no real cure for the first problem but the fueling problem can be fixed by adding a cold start injector near the intake ports so you can prime the intake.
Good luck.
