Rust Inhibitor - acts like an anti freeze?

Postby Rasker » Tue May 31, 2005 1:56 pm

Just wondering would the Rust Inhibitor in a SW20 be enough to stop it from freezing up? Or would you need to get a special blend of Rust Inhibitor and Anti Freeze into it?

Antifreeze does contain a rust inhibitor. If you're going to flush the cooling system yourself, try to get hold of the repair manual and follow the procedure, it's quite a time consuming procedure and if you don't follow it you can quite easily air lock the cooling system; MR2's are particularily bad for it.

antifreeze or coolant does have rust inhibitor in it. mix it 50/50 with water for the best effiencientcy.... when was the last time it was replaced???? should be done every 2 years or 60,00kms
want a ae86, dont want to pay 8 grand for one
have to settle for my ae92

was replaced just a little over a year ago, just worried that one night in Christchurch it will freeze up and then the engine is stuffed, so wondered if the Rust Inhibitor would stop it freezing, it's pretty close to a 50/50 blend.

Maybe if you are unsure if what you put in has antifreze or not, just flush the system and re-do it with an antifreze with rust inhibitor.
generally they have both in them, but you can buy just inhibitor that does not have antifreze.
Its not to expensive and will give you piece of mind!
Cant believe im still a member here.

haha, its not THAT cold here man!!!

but as long as u got antifreeze in it, i don't see it being a issue that needs to be changed..... maybe i'm wrong and show change mine.... been 18 months since it was imported, coolant is still clean and never needed topping up tho so i don't see any problems....

i'm lazy, but i'd probably leave it if u did put antifreeze in 1 year ago
