AE92 FXGT clutch info please

Postby gmacrae » Wed Jun 01, 2005 10:47 pm

Hey people, im after a new heavy duty (1300-1400lb) clutch for my ae92 fxgt, couple of questions:

I've had a heavy duty daikin/exedy 4agze clutch before, this is the clutch i want for my fx (but the smaller 4age one of course). Its basically just a standard daikin clutch plate, with heavy duty pressure plate. Aparently this pressure plate isnt made anymore, and i've either got the choice of standard or daikin/exedy racing clutches, which would be completely overkill for a stock fxgt

Where can i get a real good deal on an uprated (1300-1400lb) clutch kit for this car without spending more than a few hundred backs?

What size is the clutch in this car? (ae92, redtop tvis/bigport) 200mm?

Thanks for any info guys - Gene

You could get your old one modified. Got mine done through BNT, extra 50% clamping pressure on it and they modify the pivot points on the plate so it feels the same.

I'd really like to replace the whole kit, just for the sake of being thorough, plus i had such a good run out of the last clutch in my mr2, shit it took a hiding.

I might swing by bnt tho and check out their prices. Anyone else know of a cheap place to get a decent clutch?

Sorry, I should probably explain that better. The place they sent it to replaced the diaphragm spring in the pressure plate assembly and supplied a new standard clutch disc so you do pretty much get a brand new clutch.

Standard GZE clutch was listed as a heavy duty item already, got an extra 50% added on I think, so the pressure plate, clutch disc, release bearing came to about $500 I think. Nice having something that shouldn't slip unless you want it to and still have nice feel to it and be driveable.

I can get a standard daikin clutch (actually higher clamp than stock toyota) for about $340, which i dont think is a very good deal. I was hoping to get a heavy duty one for not much more than that. Last time i checked thats about where prices were
