and in 5th gear just putting my foot down in a race against a rover tomcat turbo(he chopped down a couple of gears and got the jump)
by the time i got to 150kph (from 80kph) he was several car lengths behind)

he had modified intake, more boost, exhaust that i knew of.

well since you're ditching the turbo you put a 3sge exhaust manifold and exhaust wont need to be modified at all. I'm pretty sure the 3sgte ecu and loom plug'n'play in an st182/3. If not you will have to wire it whether you install the whole engine or just the ecu/loom.

10PSI would be ample, i dont want a fast car, just something thats a bit of fun to drive around in. I would most certainly look into a water to air intercooler set-up.

10psi would be pushing it if you don't use a 3sgte ecu (for the timing retard). Even then it may be borderline.

I looked at engine prices...3sgte = $1500 3sge gen 2 = $500. Should be able to have a 3sgze running for $1500

$1500 is way too much for a 3sgte. These days you can pick up damaged GT-Fours and MR2's for less than $2k, and often sell off all the other parts to make a profit. Sounds a bit weird but if you're doing this on a budget, and you want it to be reliable, use the 3sgte. Seriously, I know when you look at something like this it always seems like just using the standard engine seems like an easier and cheaper option, but I would be suprised if the 3sgte ended up costing much more than $100-300 more than the 3sge by the time you're done. Also if you don't have enough "spare" money to be able to go through a couple of 3sge's before you get the setup right, which is a possible scenario when you're doing something that hasn't been done alot or well documented by others, then I think the 3sgte will be cheaper in the long run. The lower compression will give you some safety margin, and you're not going to be delving into the dodgy world of fooling the ecu.

just had another idea, i remember seeing a twin carbed 3sge gen 2, thing was freakin fast, was a race car though but was crazy, now could i combine that with my SC? so i'd have a twin carb SC 3sge? or is that really stupid?

I'm certainly not trying to discourage you here, but I'm trying to give help and advice to improve the outcome of your hard work building the engine. I think you should go ahead with it, but seriously take into consideration points made by myself, Mr Revhead and others, and weigh everything up before deciding exactly how you want to tackle the project.

or you could give me your aw11 and $5K and I'll return it a couple of months later with about 3 times the power it currently has, and it will be faster than most cars on the road

and if you are on a tight budget, and have no room for "little mishaps" then follow all fours advice, unless you can talk to some one whos done it, of have an expert helping you

Yeah I mean its much easier to convert a 4age into a 4agze, because you can more or less use the 4agze factory parts. and you know that they are well suited to that engine.
However if you were starting from scratch eg. doing it to a 3sge, you may have more unforseen problems.
