check cam timings. Seen an evo with totally wrong cam timings backfiring out the intake before.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

mine done this when the dizzy wasn't wired up properly, even though the timing was perfect. then it carried on doing it even when the injectors weren't firing cos they had no power...everyone was telling me that "if its backfiring out the manifold the timing is out" when it wasn't that all along.

Cams cant get mixed up as the exhaust has the gears to drive the distributor, inlet doesnt. If they were mixed up it wouldnt go.

Check the timing. This will give you an indication on how far out it is if its the dizzy.

Sounds like timing out by 180 degrees. Check for notch on inlet cam through oil filer hole to see if it's right.

timing???

Postby crispy'86 » Fri Jun 17, 2005 8:01 pm

Check the valve overlap aswell as the distributor det-up with timing!! Being an aftermarket cam grind the intake cam could be closing and the exhaust cam could be opening too early
