3SGTE cold start problems

Postby Lanius » Fri Jun 17, 2005 3:40 pm

New RC bits going very, very nicely indeed in the 185, just one nagging issue that I want to get rid of.

When the car is cold started (eg first time in the mornings), it idles very low (and a little bit rough). Once its up to operating temperature, it runs beautifully, but idles around 1200rpm. If I turn the idle back down to run at 1000rpm (once its warmed up) again, the car will usually stall when first started, and will idle between 500-700rpm (the only way I could stop it from doing this was to turn up the idle, hence it idling at 1200).

The old engine used to do something similar, but as the engine was stuffed, I'm not sure if its *exactly* the same problem or not.

Any ideas / suggestions?

Thanks in advance

good chance it's the waxstat not opening for cold idle, or a fauly ISC valve. Try swapping throttle bodies with someone who's one works properly and see if it fixes it

Get your car up to normal operating temperature and then disconnect the ISC plug. Your idle speed should rise to 1000rpm or more. If not then that should be your problem
