Depends wether you have rack'n'pinion, or recirculating ball steering. I'm pretty sure being an '81, you'll have rack'n'pinion, which won't work with factory 2T mounts, as I think the engine/gearbox webbing doesn't clear the steering box.

I believe AE25 on here has done this conversion, in fact, I'll find the link..

I believe the difference to be in the cranks?

And yeah, the 2T-B was twin carb, and the 3T came out carb too..

And from memory, the engine mounts are identical.

the steering knuckle will hit the foward bolt of the gearbox brace.
i run mine without the bolt, but it would be easy enough to counterbore the hole and use a cap screw( or similar).

the bellhousing does get close to the firewall, but you can still get tools in there.
you need to fit hydraulic clutch components, whereas the KE are cable, not and issue, but where the master cyinder is bolted, should be reinforced.
if you used the 20 spline box, the standard driveshaft will fit.

many years ago, when i had one in a KE70 sedan, the 4K x-member was used (still have the mounts somewhere).

in the TE71 rallycar i used the 2TG x-member and had rack mounts attached.

the original g/box mount was retained and the driveshaft is standard when using KE70 diff. if usuing AE70/85/86 diff, then the early A-series d/shaft will be used.

if making mounts, hang the motor/box with g/box mount attached and d/shaft fitted so the only mod is the engine mounts. any further back and you won't be able to get to bellhousing bolts and need to mod d/shaft, any further forward and d/shaft needs to lengthen and becomes front heavy.

ive dun it before heres a link to my old site www.freewebs.com/corolla_information
from memory with the crossmember you either have to unstich the mounts and weld 3t ones on or change the steering rack mounts
asuming ur using the w5* box that comes behind a 3t u just slot the rear gearbox mount and drive shaft needs to be shortened weld in a hydrolic clutch master cylinder while the engines out new fuel line and use the old one as a retun u need either a surge tank or keep the car haklf full of gas all the time as it will starve around a corner and lean out
asuming its the turbo 3tgte id split the wiring up removing all the un nessasary stuff off the 3t loom so it just runs the car and use the ke70 loom for the lights ect
