caldina boost guage and intercooler questions!?

Postby beerad » Sun Jun 19, 2005 8:00 pm

hey guys just put in my boost guage on my caldina. its an autometer gauge and at idle its registering major vaccum and when reved up it doesnt even come up over 1psi of boost? what have i done wrong?

My top mount intercooler i have just notived has a lot of bent fins. will this affect its cooling? is it worth getting neddles noses and straighting them up?

At idle, id be pushing out roughly 20hg of vac... give or take a few, engines suck in air too.. turbos force the air in, turbos require load - k?

at idle you might not reach any boost at all, you need to be driving along for a larger amount of load to be put on the engine, so you can get boost...

id say you hooked it up just fine :). thats what engines do.

id strighten them... but im a picky bastard :).

if its a few, i wouldnt worry, if its half the cooler, id go about doing it.

oh, and feeler gauges work well :)

okay my guage seems sweet then.

the intercooler is quite damaged though with bent fins i will go about straightening them with some needle noses or something. just wondering how they would of got so bent in the first place.not much could get to the caldina top mount..

Belive it or not, but high speeds cause small weak peices of metal to flex :).

just use some feeler gauges... or better yet, invest in a Fmic :D.

Roadworks / cars kicking up stones + small stones + high speed + bonnet scoop + do the math as to what can bend the fins...

although its fairly bad luck for it to occur...

Santa's Tip to Fix a Top Mount:
1) take off top mount guard cover
2) apply hammer to top mount
3) figure out you should have got a FM before smashing top mount
4) borrow nana's barina to go to ripco and get a FM
5) mount FM
6) boost hard
