sidedraft carbs??????

Postby rwd_mayhem » Fri Jun 24, 2005 9:08 pm

at the moment im trying to get 2 downdraft webers onto my manifold, they dont fit in, the side bit of the automatic choke setup hits the dizzy. I got a sidedraft weber the other day which is smaller and might fit in easier, the stud spacing holes are the same, so itll fit onto my manifold.
what i was wondering is if you can use sidedraft carbs upright like a downdraft carb? if it wont work, do you know of any way i could get the downdraft webers to fit in?

I dont think you can use sidedraught carbys as downdraught carbs because of the floats. Perhaps Dellortos will fit, thay will bolt right up to a webber manifold.

Can't you remove the auto choke and plug it?
Its one or the other. You can use sidedraft carbs with a sidey manifold. Or downdraft with a downdraft manifold. The states offroaders are regulated to run downdraft's on thier 4age's they do so with some sucess. However your still better off with sidey's
The answer is Helmholtz!

Sidedraught carbs needs to be on the correct level to make them work right. Even 10 degrees out and they will not work correct.

Why side draughts anyway? nowdays efi is way better.
You can efi any engine.

can u even efi a 8valve, pushrod 1600? too expensive once again!

I cant take the auto choke setup off, because theres sumthng in them which u need 2 make them idle properly apparently!

so can u get different types of webers? it looks alot like a dellorto/solex but crispy86 had an idea that it might not even be a sidedraft.

get EFI from 2TG and make/acquire an adapter plate, or get 3TEU efi

is it the auto choke that is set by water temperature? if so, get rid of itand remove choke butterfly as well

both Dell'orto and Weber make down and side draft carbs.
sidedrafts are DCOE(Weber) DHLA (Dell'orto) downdrafts are DGAV/DFAv/DGAS (common Weber) and DRLA ( Dell'orto).

why not fit a single carb manifold and fit a 28/32 or a 32/36 DGAV Weber downdraft? common as mud, cheap to buy and work good. i use 32/36 on my 2T in my TE71 and dosn't give any problems, just make sure the fuel unoin is well attached.[/quote]

yes, but they are getting hard to get good ones, correct jetting can be hard to source( at least Dell'orto are), need constant tuning, scoff petrol and a real bitch when they are cold.......but yes tuned correctly they do go good .

yea dammit it is a dcoe. $&#$% it! are u sure theres no way at all to get it workn downdraft style? the auto choke setup is the water one, but when u take it off you also take this idle something or rather off, which is causing problems, cant get it going. a single would b heaps easier, i dont have a single manifold though, it got stolen! u must have one u can give me since i gave u a motor! :)

in my escort, i had a sidedraught 45mm dellorto, Now it didnt clear the brake booster when we popped the motor back in, so we maed up a spacer on one of the engine mounts and this angled the motor so that the carb cleared it,

As long as the Floats (take top cover off carb and there are small fuel 'galleries' have sufficeint fuel in there, one can be more then the other, it will be ok,

I took mine to a carb specialist, and mucked around with different jets and venturis and what not, on the dyno, walked in with 40rwkw and walked out with 62rwkw!

money well spent!

ps. carb was a DHLA45 or something similar to that on a Spears Racing manifold
