why did my mr2 suddenly pass its 180k limiter (210k)?

Yes, the ECU controls the speed cut, but it get's it speed signal from the speedo. If the speedo generates this signal, as is the case for mechanical speedos, then changing the speedo could result in fewer pulses/wheel revolution thereby changing the speed at which cut occurs.

I fitted a TRD 320 kmh speedo to a late model supra at work and it definatly did not remove the speed cut or even alter it as i found out on a test drive afterwards.

hey slightly of topic but my levin gtz has a factory cut but it varies quite significantly some days it will cut at approximatly 5800 revs and others it will cut at 6500 approximatly and it doesnt lose any power from fuel cuts or boost leaks etc

Indeed it does say that 8O. That's strange as I the info I got came from a usually reliable source :?

Me? :D. I can confirm through practical experience that the mechanical TRD SW20 300kph speedo (for 89-10 to 91-12 turbos) most definitely removes the speed cut. My car used to cut before I fitted one, but was still pulling like a typical post to this forum well past 240kph afterward. I apologise for any implication that this applied to all TRD speedos; there was no Japanese translation available back in 1998 .

Indeed it was, but I'm afraid the implication was mine  This, now confirmed information, implies that at least the mechanical TRD speedos fitted to early MR2's removed the speed cut.

Now that has been cleared up, all that remains is to determine if streatracer's MR2 has the mechanical or electronic speedo. Judging from previous posts the car is a '91 so unless it's a Dec '91 production date then it has a mechanical gauge.

So streatracer, what's the the prdoduction date of your MR2? Or if you don't know that, what's the chassis #?

In that case it shouldn't have a speed limiter when using the TRD speedo, so I go back to my original point, what is happening is unlikely to be a speed limiter fuel cut.

What it is I don't know, and as testing it involves highly questionable behaviour if done on public roads, then I would suggest it's not something that needs to be fixed unless track time is contemplated.
