Will it pass a warrant??

The panel at the bottom of my windscreen is rusted as f**k and looks like it has been for quite some time, but has been passing warrants. Question is, will it pass another one? I bought the car (86 Celica GT-R) at auction about a month ago n didn't notice the problem till after I'd taken possesion (yeh, dumbass, I kno...).

If it's structural or can have an effect on the rigibilaty (sp?) of the windscreen then no.

If you own an old car you need to be fimilar with rust killer and bog.

take it for a wof, fix it if it fails

get rid of the visable rust and apply rust kill.
what they can't see, they can't fail you on.

can you stick a screw driver through the rust? this is what we do to test it at work, it wont be as bigger problem if its in the middle as opposed to on the side by the A pillar

is the screw driver through the rust an ianz accredited test for rust?
if i saw anyone doin that to my car id give them the same test.

wof's are visual checks, which means no prodding panels with screw drivers or lifting panels etc.

True, but if that was the case then surface rust would be failed.

If its just soemthing you can scratch off and have solid body under then its fine, if you can poke a screwdriver through then its failable.

Cant rememeber what the rules are around a windscreen. Rules are up on VTNZ/LTSA/whetevertheyarecallingthemselves site though

If its that black strip thing along the front of the windscreen then it wont fail, thats just a piece of lead(or something) just pull it off (pretty easy on that model if i memba) fix it up, and stick it back on. Remember rust spreads like the plague.

My brother had the same problem with his, i think... :/

If it is the black panel that is screwed on below the windscreen then it will pass a WOF. It is not structual
