Wtf? Handbrake light coming on

Postby rolla_fxgt » Mon Jun 27, 2005 2:28 pm

For some odd reason my handbrake light has started coming on when ever i accelerate or go round a corner. Does anyone know why this would be? It doesnt feel like the handbrake is actually engaged or engages when it comes on. Could it be a faulty sensor ?
Can i disconect it? its not like im gona forget the handbrakes on anyway, well except if i want to have it on, to "aid in cornering".
But its really starting to bug me seeing the damn red light comining on on the dash

correct me if i'm wrong but i think that means you brake fluild is low check the resovoir (sp), level will drop during cornering etc.

the fluid level in the brake resivour seems within limits, & seems fine. is there a seperate rear cylynder or resivour?

I had this happen in my fx, didnt really bother with it, but then when i changed my shocks and had to bleed the brakes, no more light so im guessing its something to do woth old fluid, low fluid in lines or something

Ive just had the rear track rods replaced, would they of disconnected the brakes to put them in, hence needing to re bled the lines & do a complete fluid replacement?

they shouldnt have had to i dont think, if they had it would more than likely have stopped the light, thats if its not a faulty sensor of course

yea you can but its not good to do it, wof etc bleed your brakes first with new fluid since its always good to do anyhow and see what happens, how much is left on the brake pads themselves?

that is true! the did work on my SJ413 and i wasnt happy.

Your handbrake sensor is under the actual handbrake itself, take off the centre console and u'll see what I mean.
We had this problem on dads 80 series landcruiser and we just moved the sensor contacts further apart from eachother.

Yeah im never going back there, i asked for hi temp front brake pads, which was all good, but they didnt think of putting good fluid in & put lesser than what was origionally in there.

Ill have a look at the contacts, i had a wee look when i had all the interior out of the car the other day, but i might give it full going over tomorrow.

If its pad related, anyone recomend a good highish temp pad, i tend to drive them quite hard, oh & what fluid too, is dot 4 gona be good enough? or whats in an ae101 fxgt as standard?

I'm putting my money on the connections too, had the same problem with the connections in my supra, but it being tempremental it screwed alot more than just the light.

Look for little black 'connection' boxes, for some reason the japs love them, and they are useless, they get old and perish.

Okay, its starting to do this again, but only under heavy throttle.
Other symptoms that I think are related is that it stalls very easily when reversing, after being parked for a bit.
Am I correct in assuming it might be sticky pistons or worn seals in the rear brakes? I only replaced the rear brakes late last year/early this year (and fronts early last year), so I don't think it could be time for new pads, and the fluid level looks pretty primo.

Any help appreciated. almost starting to think the cars a bit possessed
